"What's that? Sunlight?" Maddie gestured to the thin beam of light pouring from the rock, a puzzled look on her face.
"I don't know." Replied Nyx, just as confused. "I didn't think we were that far up, near the surface. Unless it's like... Reflected light or something... Or firelight maybe?"
"Yeah, firelight." Maddie answered sarcastically. "Lit by what, the cave trolls?"
"Alright, alright, no need to be mean. Although, I wouldn't joke. It seems entirely possible in this place. Though, it's not quite the right kind of light for fire. More likely sunlight.
Hey, maybe it's like, some kind of luminescent rock? Totally possible too.""It's not just the light though. I mean, what about the rock thing blocking it? It's like granite or something, which wouldn't be weird if this place wasn't nature's bioluminescent hall of mirrors. And what's all the red swirls?"
Nyx nodded in acknowlegment, and eased Maddie down into a sitting position so she could go get a better look.
After a couple of minutes, she turned to Maddie with a cheeky smile twitching on her lips as she tried to keep a straight face.Maddie raised an eyebrow. "Alright, what is it?"
"As I suspected all along, Watson, this, is in fact, a wall."
Maddie sarcastically slow clapped. "Ha, ha, very funny. Nice British accent. Now, that wasn't my point and you know it. So, like, what's all the red stuff? I can't quite see it."
"Oh, okay. Well... Without going into any detail, it's like some kind of cave-painting. It's telling like a story... Or multiple stories or something. Hey, do you wonder if maybe this wall is different because it's like some sort of prison or vault or something? Like, keeping us out or keeping something in or... Something? Just a thought."
Maddie swallowed, eyeing the rock wall. "It's a good thought. Unnerving, but good."
What do you think? Keeping something in or keeping them out? Or both?
Also, what do you think of the book so far? Tell me!
