Selene bounced Abby in her arms, trying to hush the crying baby as Rachel's gut-wrenching screams wracked the house.

"Sssh, it's okay... It's okay... Nothing to worry about... Grandma's going to be fine... Do you call her Grandma? I suppose you kind of do, I mean, she kind of is... Hey, let's sing a nursery rhyme!"

Abby screwed up her face, and bellowed at the top of her lungs, waving her little arms in the air angrily.

Selene pushed strands of her blonde mane out of her face, forehead drenched with sweat.

God, where was Nyx when you needed her? She was a natural with Abby, would get her to calm in a moment.

And God, where was Evelyn, Nick and Travis? Did they not get that Rachel's life depended on them?

She knew it seemed selfish of her not to be up there, helping, but to be honest, there was little she could do. Other than Evelyn, Magnus was probably the best chance they had of helping Rachel. Owen was there as well, handling things very capably. In fact, the most useful thing she could do would be to tend to Abby.

And she just couldn't do it. She couldn't watch Rachel like that. No matter how it ended, she didn't want to see Rachel looking so... Weak, helpless, in pain.
Rachel was this great, amazing, strong person, who could do anything she put her mind too.

And that's how Selene forever wanted her to be.

Rachel had saved Selene. She didn't know all the details of how, but in so many ways, she had.

"Shhh, Abby, it's okay. No need to... Cry." Selene said, wiping away tears.
