Who knew two little children could move so fast?

Like, Nick was fast, and had been even before becoming a vampire, but somehow these kids managed to just stay out of reach.

Then again, it could be less about the speed and more about the multiple furniture obstructions they had no qualms about tipping over into his way, as well as the fact that they knew where they were going.

It was almost comical watching these two running ahead, in torn play clothing, Billy wearing Nick's jacket like a dress, the sleeves double the length of his arms, the excess material flapping like wings as he ran.

Waylaid by a tumbled table he ended up tangled in, he lost sight of them as they disappeared around a corner.

Pulling his legs from the ornately decorative table, he hissed curses angrily under his breath, charging down the hallway and rounding the corner, prepared to scream bloody murder at these two antagonists.

He skidded to a halt as he saw the two children frozen in place at the top of the stairs, peering up over the bannister at the ceiling.

Billy slowly turned his head to Nick, gesturing for him to be quiet by placing his finger on his lips, then removing it and pointing upwards.

Nick tipped his head back and looked where the child was pointing.

A sea of bat-like creatures hung upside down from the ceiling, apparently asleep, or at least hadn't noticed them yet.

Rigsy twitched nervously, his tail swinging slightly.
"I can't take them all out." He whispered quietly.
Billy shook his head. "Not asking. Let's just back up." He mouthed.

They slowly stepped back towards Nick, checking for movement above them with every step, until they reached Nick.
They let out an audible sigh of relief.

That is, until the sound of leathery wings behind Nick drew their attention.
