Cool hands helped the exhausted Nyx up off the ground, guiding her away from the hole to a small patch of shade.
A bottle of water was raised to her lips. "Here, small sips, not too much at once, you'll make yourself sick."
Prying her dry eyes open, she took the bottle from the lady, taking a sip.
The water tasted metallic in her dry mouth, cutting a wet pathway down her dusty throat as she swallowed.
"There you go. Better now?" The lady said kindly.
Nyx nodded, too exhausted to vocalise an answer.
"The rest of your companions will be out soon. You're lucky to be alive, you know."
The lady was making conversation, clearly not out of actual interested but to ground Nyx back from the state of shock she was in.
"It must have been awful. But you're okay now. Just a little dehydration and lack of food. As long as you keep that water down, you can have something to eat in a bit, if you like."
Nyx nodded again, taking another sip.
"Do you feel alright? Nothing outstanding you think we need to know about?"
Nyx's voice was dry as she spoke. "No. I think I'm okay. How's..."
"... Your friend who came up with you? She's just over there, resting. She asked for some time alone. We're going to get someone to check her out in a second. It's her leg, isn't it? Something's wrong with it?"
Nyx nodded, thinking it through. From the sounds of it, they hadn't recognised Maddie yet. She wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not.
Technically, Maddie was still in the hospital, in a coma. Except she was now also here, in her new 'reflection' body.
Nyx had no explanation for why and how, and therefore really didn't want to deal with questions about.Licking her lips to wet them enough to speak properly, she asked quietly. "Could I possibly go talk to her?"
Sorry I didn't post yesterday. I planned to, but something else came up.
