Freeze!

As it turns out, apparently you can walk past the lone bat-creature-demon-thing guarding the entrance from the hallway without noticing it, whilst having it most definitely notice you, and consequently have it block you into a room with thousands of its sleeping relatives.

"Don't move." Nick breathed to the two children who were not-so-subtly using him as a shield between them and this creature.

The creature examined them with beady eyes, inching closer and closer, more curious than angry or hungry or violent, although that could change in an instant.

It blinked at them with reptilian eyes, like it was trying to work out what they were; a threat, part of the scenery, or food.

Closer, closer and closer still. Nick could have sworn he could feel it's breath huffing into his face.

Behind him, he could hear Billy and Rigsy whispering ever so quietly to each other. Nick considered giving them a nudge or something to tell them to shut up, but chances were that the sudden movement would draw more attention than the talking, and right now he was really hoping that this thing would assume he was part of the stairs or something.
He really didn't want to be on the end of another demon attack, not today.

And it didn't help that he had the feeling that the two whisper-buddies behind him were not above throwing him to the creatures as a form of distraction whilst making their escape.

In fact, that was probably what they were planning, with all the whispering.

Suddenly, Nick felt Rigsy pushing a small material bag of... Something, into his hands.

"When Billy says so, throw this on the ground, then run fast."
He muttered in an almost inaudible whisper.

"What?" Mouthed Nick, absolutely confused.

No time for any answers, as the creature chose that moment to take a snap at Nick.
