Summer. The one season of the year you seemed to dread. The hot summer heat was beating down into your body as you lay across your wooden floor. You had managed to close as many windows and doors as possible, but that didn't stop the summer heat from creeping in and making you feel all sticky and gross.
You slowly turned your head toward the kitchen to look at a thermometer that was neatly placed on the windowsill.
100 degrees....
You moaned, rolling onto your stomach letting your face droop into a pout. Why couldn't it just be 80, heck! 90 would be a lot better than 100. You closed your eyes trying to block out the alarms in your head telling you it was too darn hot to do anything. Maybe just sitting here and doing nothing will get you mind off of heat. Maybe no one will bother you.
Ding! Wrong.
Your eyes shot open as you sharply turned your head to the dining room table. You phone seems to still be intact from the heat. And is ready to annoy you once more
Ding!
You rolled your eyes as you slowly sat up. The feeling of sweat on your back from the floor made you shiver. You finally stagger over to the device and click it on.
There were two unread messages, both from Mei.
Ice Queen 👑❄️
Hey! It's burning up on this side of town.
Wanna hang out?"
You hands glide over the keys faster then your mind could think. You were always exited when you got messages from the Overwatch scientist. Her text always made you smile. You quickly reply hoping she hasn't set down the phone.
(Y/n)
Sure! Anything to get out of this heat! Where to?
You quickly hit the send button and waited. You usually were not the type to be social. But when it comes to Mei you would become an extrovert in a heartbeat.
The sudden vibration in your hands almost made you jump. She replied fast and with a plan.
Ice Queen 👑❄️
How about the ice cream shop downtown? My treat!
Her offering to buy you ice cream made you blush.
(Y/n)
Awe your awesome, ice cream seems amazing right now, you don't have to pay though!!
The second you sent the text she replied with a response.
Ice Queen 👑❄️
I! I want to pay! Meet around 2?"
You let a smile take up your face.
(Y/n)
"Sounds good to me! See you at two!"
1:45pm(little time skip)
Mei had already picked a spot near the counter for the both of you sit once you arrived. It was the perfect spot; you could see all the flavors and toppings from your seats. She was fully prepared, well... almost. It's funny really, Mei always feels more confident when she is talking to you in the phone or texting. But talking in person? Oh heck no. That is hard. She starts to get all shy talking you in person. But it's easier to talk to a screen then it is to talk to a persons face.
When she does talk you, as she does often. She starts to mumble and gets fidgety, her sentences start to become one giant word as she tries to have a conversation.
Mei swore to herself as she let herself slump a bit in the chair. She wishes she could just talk to you like a normal person, but to her you were no normal person. You were just so nice and kind and caring and always seemed to know exactly what to say. A-
"Oh hey Mei! I didn't see you there!"
Mei was frozen in place as y/n walked in sporting a gray tank top and worn out shorts the perfect attire for a day like this. Man, she looked beautiful.
Mei stood up straight in her chair and spoke shyly, "Oh hey y/n, how's the weather treating you?"
Your sudden change of mood as you sat down next to her at the ice cream bar made her face morph into concern. Maybe she shouldn't have asked that question. But you quick response told her otherwise.
"Oh don't get me started! The weather has been so bad for my general well being! I feel like I am melting."
You crossed you arms and let your face form a meaningful yet cute pout.
Mei giggled at your response causing you to blush; she continued to speak not noticing the bright red shine on your cheeks.
"Maybe we should get this ice cream to go, so you don't melt in this shop."
You smiled at her and quickly got the bartenders attention to get your orders.
"That sounds like a lovely idea."
The main park was full of people. All of them enjoying the hot day, however, the majority of the park goers were sheltering themselves underneath umbrellas and trees. It was a beautiful day to go outside, but too hot for most. That didn't stop you and Mei from walking along the path enjoying your treat and laughing. You managed to speak between giggles.
"So your telling me that you froze Amélie in place?! How did you manage to get away!?"
Mei continued with her story, happy that you seemed to enjoy it.
"I did get away thankfully, but I do get glares from her once and twice a week for that incident."
You both continue to giggle and laugh about that situation as you turn down another path to find a seat. You sit down next to her and continue.
"Now that was a funny story," you licked your ice cream and continued, "Though, pretty a-Mei-zing how you handled the situation."
Mei blushed at your statement and looked at you. "Awe that so sweet of you I-" her brows furrowed as she looked back at you, "Really..." You started to giggle again as she continued, "What you were saying was really sweet by you had to throw a pun in there."
She smiled as she looked back at you. You just gave her a cheesy grin, "Hey I promise next date I won't be so punny it's just the heat getting to me, promise."
Mei just stared. Date!? As in a date DATE or a friend date? Her mind started to swirl and spin as she tried to put the pieces together. But this couldn't be a date.... Can it? She looked up at y/n for an answer and only saw a blush.
Y/n was the one to actually start stammering, "W-well I mean I don't know if you want to consider this a date. I-I mean I just thought that since you w-were so kind to buy me ice cream that this mi- I- do-...."
Y/n stopped stammering and just looked at Mei, who was indeed shocked by your statement but smiled happily, "I-if you want this can be a date t-that is fine you want it to be."
Now you both were stammering, after about ten minutes of back and forth mumbling you both decided to go have dinner for the second date. It would be totally casual like last time, but hopefully with a little less awkwardness. You smiled at her as you stood up, hugging her really tight.
"So next week at the diner?"
You nodded your head, just as you were about to walk home you had an idea.
" Mei!"
She stopped in her tracks and turned to you.
"What is it (y/n)?"
You held your breath, then released.
You places a hand to her cheek and leaned into her ear.
"Wear a cute dress for our dinner next week, I wanna take you somewhere special"
She blushes nodding her head. You leaned closer to her face hovering your lips over hers.
"You are so beautiful Mei"
You kissed her lips, only a small gentle peck but this caused a spark to hit both of you. Mei turned bright red.
"See you layer Mei, I'll text you later"
With that you walked back to your house.
