Chapter 50: Happy then Sad

Friday May 2nd

2 months until school ends. 2 months until I'm finally done with school. 2 months until I get to relax for 2 months which is fantastic. I woke up today earlier because I was so excited. A little to early actually. It's 5 am. I got ready and was downstairs by 5:20 am. Now I've got nothing to do. I'm sitting here staring at the TV without turning it on and not have to do anything.

Plus had come downstairs with me. I had gotten him at Christmas but I hadn't spent enough time with him so I took this time to actually bond with him. I sometimes leave dog shows on YouTube for him to watch on TV so he had seen the tricks a lot. I spent the next 2 hours and a bit just bonding and playing with Plue. He seemed really happy. While waiting for Natsu, Plue got tired so he curled up in my lap and fell back asleep. I was about to join him but the noise of keys snapped me out of it.

Natsu entered and Happy ran towards us just to find that Plue was sleeping. Natsu came in after probably to get Happy because Plue and I were normally upstairs. He looked a little shocked that I was ready to go. Normally I'd be sleeping by now.

"What got you up so early?" He asked.

"It's only 2 months until school ends" I told him smiling.

"Oh yeah. I guess that's something to be excited about. That's why you're awake?" He asked

"Yep" I simply answered.

"Well might as well get to school earlier then. Let's go." He said as we left the now sleeping Plue and Happy to roam around the house like we normally do.

In summer, I'd have some extra time to kill so I'd mostly hang out with Natsu and play with Plue and Happy. We walked calmly to school while I was trying to stop the smile a bit but failing. I entered the school with a happy atmosphere. Something I hadn't done in a long time. Natsu and I were in the classroom in a little while.

I was sitting in my desk when I saw Natsu go in front, kneel down and laid his head on my desk.

"Lucy I'm hungry" He complained.

"Good" I said back.

"So mean" He whined.

"Would you prefer it if I was an angel and I completely was nice and didn't complain about anything?" I asked half joking.

"No. That would be strange. Plus this Lucy is a balance between the good and evil. I wouldn't have you any other way." He answered seriously.

I looked away from Natsu letting out a slight laugh.

"You sure do have a way with embarrassing words." I said with a slight smile on my face. "It's cute."

"I know I'm cute. You don't have to tell me" Natsu boasted.

"Did not expect that answer" I said in surprise.

I, for no apparent reason, felt the need to turn around. There I saw Sting with a smirk on his face while Yukino with a huge smile on her face. They began to head towards us.

"Don't worry. I'll back you up." Natsu whispered in my ear.

"Now that was some top quality flirting." Sting teased.

"It wasn't flirting." I told him.

"Natsu doesn't seem to think so." Yukino said.

"Huh? Sorry I wasn't listening. Can you repeat that?" He asked.

So much for backup...

"Probably daydreaming about Lucy even when she's right in front of him." Yukino gushed. "Can't wait to tell Mira."

I might have imagined it but Sting seemed to frown at that statement. I decided to change the topic.

"Do you guys have any plans ahead?" I asked.

"Not really." Yukino said. "Do you want to plan something?"

Sting brightened up.

"I have plenty o-" He started but was interrupted by the bell.

"Tell me later okay? We have class right now." Yukino said.

"Ok." He said disappointed.

Yukino seemed to notice and took his hand and dragged him to his seat.

"Ah they're cute." I laughed.

Natsu stood up and whispered something I didn't catch before leaving. I stared back to ask him but the teacher has already come. Until Lunch, Natsu seemed too embarrassed to talk to me. When we reached the library, he ate his food silently.

"Why are you so quiet?" I finally asked.

"Did you by any chance hear what I said after the bell rang?" He asked still looking down at his food.

"Didn't hear it" I answered.

Natsu sighed in relief and began to talk time like normal again. What he said must have been really embarrassing if he dragged it out for this long. The end of the day quickly approached and the bell rang. We packed up our books.

"Natsu stay behind" The teacher ordered.

Natsu looked slightly confused. I left to my locker, not wanting to overhear their conversation. I packed my bag and waited outside. Natsu was done in a little over 30 minutes. When he came out, he had a dark aura around him. We walked home in complete silence. Natsu didn't talk. He stared down at the road most of the time. I don't really know how he navigated but he somehow managed to do it.

I opened the door and we went in. For some reason, Happy and Plue didn't come to greet us. They probably could tell the bad aura around Natsu. I dropped my bag on the couch with Natsu following me. I turned around and got surprised with a hug.

"Natsu what's wrong?" I asked.

"I don't want to talk about it. Can we just stay like this for a bit please?" He asked.

"Sure." I answered.

I don't really know what happened to Natsu but I'm not happy about it. He told me not to dwell on it and that her be back to normal in the morning but that didn't stop me. I wanted to help him and he normally just asks. I guess this might be serious enough for him not to want me involved.  I'll stay out of it for now. But I'm not happy about it. You should just tell me what's wrong. I'll be there for you even if it's bad.

I should stop spouting this. It's better to show than tell I guess. First would be to get Natsu to be happier.

Happy 50th chapter and happy anniversary of this book. It's been a year since I started. Man I feel accomplished. Lol. I have a great idea for a next chapter. ○~○.
