Previously on Escape the Night, the castle chef captured two of the guests, and forced the others to save them. Lilly was unable to make poison for him, and she paid for her oversight by dying at his hand.

"The next lieutenant is a mad scientist. He's far ahead of this time, belonging in more modern times. The spirit supplied him with modern technology to aid in his research. He created a machine that harnessed the power of lightning to kill those he needed dead," Lizzie said.
"Like a reverse Frankenstein?" Willow asked.
"Sounds like it," Lizzie said. Suddenly, a ghost appeared before them. She had dark hair, and a long black coat and black trousers.
"The top of the eastern tower, he lives there, that's where you need to go. My name is Alison, I'll help you as much as I can. Go there now, I've left instructions for you," said the ghost.
"Well, your heard the ghost, to the eastern tower," Mark said, "Alex, Lauren, will you lead the way?"
Alex and Lauren lead the guests to the top of the tower at Mark's request.

The guests walked into the tower and saw technology that shouldn't exist for hundreds of years. Rosanna picked up a note lying on a table and opened it.
"Guys, I think this is the note," she said.

Guests, there are three pieces of machinery lying around the house. The first piece is a small gear and is located in the gazebo in the garden. The second piece is a lever and is located in the kitchen pantry. The third piece is another, larger gear and is located in the cabinet in the dungeons. When you find them, reassemble the machine. Perhaps the scientist will be there to give you further instructions. Yours - Alison

The guests listened as Rosanna stopped reading when Alison's voice began to read the letter. Rosanna put the letter down.
"Should we check where we need to put the pieces so we can get a sense of size?" Zoe asked.
"That sounds like a good idea," Joel said. The guests walked over to the machine they assumed they would be reassembling. It looked very similar to the machine in Frankenstein, which the guests were expecting. There were two gaps in the gear patterns where the guests would need to find the gears, and there was an areas where a lever should be, but wasn't.
"Okay, well, we know what we're looking for, let's go," Willow said, "no point wasting time."

As the guests turned to leave, they found their path blocked by a man who looked like a scientist.
"I assume you are the guests the spirit sent for," he said. The guests nodded.
"Are you the scientist?" Thomas asked.
"I am, I'm so glad you're here. I need to you find the missing pieces of my machine. Do you think you can do that for me? Of course, I'll have to use it to kill one of you later, but I do need it to work for that to happen. Thank you, you may go and find the pieces necessary," he said. The guests looked at him, very confused. His mind seemed to be thinking ten things at once, and his eyes were full of crazy. The guests left the room in search of the pieces they required, although each of them was thinking about how to stop the machine from working to allow their friends to live.
