Well this has been one long ass week.

I only just got through the first week of school and I already wish this year could end. The only upside to this week is that Emily managed to make a friend and for the first time in so long, my little sister seems genuinely happy.

Mom on the other hand hasn't changed. She still worries, but even I'm getting exhausted of pretending everything is okay. I can't rebel out like most people tend to do when their life does a complete 180 so I'm left with shutting everyone out.

Then there are my best friends who seems to be having a blast. Zayn and River got extremely close to Andrea and Veronica, which I honestly don't understand why.

Andrea seems like a pretty shitty friend, to be honest. I mean, ever since River, Zayn and I joined them at their lunch table, she's completely disregarded her best friend's feeling to try to get the attention of a guy. I don't know much about girls, never found a reason to understand them, but I'm pretty sure you don't put a guy before your best friend, right? Or does the whole 'girl code' shit work differently?

Then there's Veronica, who just seems fake and not in the whole 'two faced bitchy' kind of fake, or the whole covering her face with hundreds of layers of makeup just to get attention, but more in the happy-go-lucky fake. I mean, no one laughs and smiles that much. No one is that nice. I was a complete jerk to her this whole week yet she would always greet me in a cheery tone and a wide smile.

I share three classes with this girl as well as three best friends, yet we don't talk. Like, at all. Not unless we really have to, which is next to never. We pretty much ignore each other.

Something about her seems off. Like she's pretending to be someone else and I hate it when girls do that. Then again, there must be a reason why Matt stuck around for so long.

Zayn, River and Matt made it their mission to get the girls to come to the party, which only seemed to piss me off more. We don't invite girls. Well, at least not personally. Word gets out there's a party and people just show up. We don't do personal invites, but it seems like my idiot best friends forgot about that, because they've been literally begging the two girls to come.

Walking into my room after my shower, I'm startled by my mother standing by my bedroom door. What happened to privacy? I could have been naked!

"What time will you be home tonight?" Mom asks. I open my mouth to answer but she speaks again. "Are you even coming home tonight is the question I should be asking instead." Mom finishes, pain in her eyes but she tries to hide it with a quirk of her left brow.

"No." I answer flatly, a stabbing feeling in my chest. One look at mom confirms that I hurt her but before I can even correct myself or even apologize, she nods before turning around and walking out, shutting the door behind her.

And the award for son of the year goes to Blake Dylan Wilder, everybody!

Sighing, I shove my phone and wallet into my pockets before grabbing my keys and heading downstairs. I reach the living room and find Emi sitting on mom's lap, mom braiding Emi's hair back. Just by looking at her from behind I could tell mom was hurting. We've all been hurting for the past three years. To top it all off, I am exhausted. There's only so much stress a teenager can take, and supporting his family is not something that could be classified as easy. Not. At. All.

Sighing, I leave the house without a word. There are a lot of things I can handle, but seeing my mom hurt, and I'm partially to blame, isn't one of those things.

I arrive at Zayn's and I'm immediately bombarded with people. Guys are trying to talk to me and girls are throwing themselves at me. Greeting a few guys and completely ignoring the girls, I finally make it to the basement where the rest of the soccer team sits. Zayn is sitting on the recliner, a girl straddling him as the two have a heated make out session.
