I am up at 6:00am and already in the gym down in the basement. I usually don't start until around 9:30am, but since I promised Emily a day out, I thought I'd get an early workout session.
I am just busy cooling down when Emily comes running down the stairs, shouting my name excitedly.
I grab my water bottle and sit down just as she enters the gym and runs straight into my arms.
"I'm ready!" She beams excitedly, throwing her arms around my neck in the process.
The wide smile on her face causes a smile to break out on my own.
"I can see that, Munchkin" I chuckle, raising my brows. "I'll just go get cleaned up then we can go, kay?"
"And eat breakfast!"
I laugh, placing her on the ground again as I stand up and grab my towel.
"I'll eat breakfast too." I promise. I may not be the happiest person alive, but there's nothing I wouldn't do for my little sister.
After a quick shower, I just throw on a pair of sweatpants and a loose black tank top and my white chucks. I then make my way downstairs where I find a plate of scrambled egg and bacon waiting for me on the island beside a protein shake.
I down the protein shake before stuffing my face with egg.
"You were up early this morning." Mom comments as she rounds the island to kiss my cheek.
"Woke up early and couldn't fall back asleep."
"What time are you and your sister leaving?"
"After I'm finished eating." I mumble.
I see mom frowning so I focuse my gaze on the food in front of me. It's not that I enjoy hurting her, because believe me, I hate it, but there are just days where I don't even feel like getting out of bed.
I am constantly exhausted, both physically and mentally, and I hate that my family has to suffer. They've been put through enough already, but I just can't help it. I miss my dad, and I know they miss him too, but I just wish he could wake up and come back to us.
I've had nightmares about losing him, which I've decided to keep to myself, and those nightmares caused me to have sleepless nights which only makes me moodier.
Sighing, I look up at my mom, forcing a smile on my face. "Why don't you come with us?" I ask.
"You and your sister go ahead, honey." She smiles and I frown.
She hardly ever leaves the house anymore, unless she needs to take or fetch Emily from school, go to the grocery store or go to my soccer games. Other than that, she'll stay cooped up in the house all day.
I sigh and just finish my breakfast, just listening to mom and Emi chat away. Once I'm done, I place my dishes in the sink and kiss my mom before leading Emi to the car and buckling her up. I turn the radio on for her so she can sing her lungs out to the songs on the radio while I drive. The happiness my little sister displays always makes me smile. I love seeing her so happy and stress free.
Oh what I wouldn't give to be a toddler again.
We pull up in the parking lot and Emily squeals out in excitement. One would think she doesn't come here much which would be a massive lie. She knows this mall better than she knows her own house.
We walk around from store to store, Emily scanning for toys or clothing she likes. Unlike most toddlers, Emily isn't a pain to take to the mall. I would have expected her to just want everything, but no, this child doesn't dry out my wallet. Thank god!
