The rest of the drive is spent with us singing along to every song that came on the radio, well she sang along to every song while I only sang what I knew.
It isn't until we pull off the highway and towards the church in Beverly Hills that Veronica's mood starts changing. She goes from being so happy and carefree to fidgety.
When we pull in front of the church, Veronica starts fidgeting even more. She turns the rear-view mirror so she can fix her hair instead of just pulling down the blinder and using that mirror.
I get out of the car and when I shut the door, I use the tinted window to check my reflection before rounding the car and opening the passenger door to find Veronica hunched over and trying to strap her heeled shoe with shaky hands.
Smiling, I crouch down and take her one foot and place it in my lap so I can fix the strap. When I'm done with that foot, I place it on the gravel ground beneath me and take her other foot to tie that strap before standing up straight again and reaching my hand for her. Veronica breaths out a shaky breath as she takes my hand and allows me to pull her up.
The look in Veronica's eyes as she stares at the church kinda has me worried. She looks scared, not as scared as when she's in front of Henry, but she still looks scared. I shut the door and lock the car before turning her to face me and cup her cheeks.
"I'm right here, Firefly." I promise. Her eyes are locked on mine, searching mine. Wordlessly, she leans forward but even with the heels she is too short, so I lean down and press my lips to hers.
Her body melts against mine, her arms snaking around my waist and holding onto me as if she is scared to let go. Slowly, I pull back but keep my hands on her cheeks. Veronica keeps her eyes closed for a few more minutes before releasing a long breath and opening her eyes again.
"You ready, Speedy?" Mason asks, successfully managing to scare both Veronica and I as he pops out of nowhere with Kate, Matt and Jordan.
"No." Veronica shakes her head, glancing at the church. "I think I might just throw up again." She frowns.
Ben, Lynn, Grammy and Gramps all appear, frowning as they stare down at Veronica.
"Baby girl, if you really can't do this then we'll understand if you want to leave." Ben frowns and I expect Lynn to disagree seeing as she never gave the kids a choice, but to my surprise she nods her head in agreement.
Veronica glances from Mason to Matt before looking at me. Her pale brown eyes lingers on mine before she looks back at her parents and shakes her head.
"No, I'll be okay." Veronica smiles, it's a small smile and I know she's forcing it for her family's sake.
"You sure?" Lynn asks and Veronica slips her hand in mine and nods. The action doesn't go unnoticed by her family and I catch Ben, Lynn and Mason all smiling at me because of it.
"Then lets go." Lynn smiles before turning around and heading towards the church with her husband and her parents.
"Don't worry, this is the easy part of the day." Mason smiles assuringly and Veronica nods.
"When we get to the reception, we can all make fun of how they went all out for a day that isn't even about them." Matt winks and Veronica lets out a genuine laugh.
"I bet aunt Karen went for a silk gown." Mason says, looking like he's genuinely thinking about it.
"With a heel higher than she can walk on." Kate adds and Mason grins down at his girlfriend proudly. We all stand there laughing until Lynn calls us over. By the time we enter the church and find our seats right at the back, Veronica has relaxed a little more.
