"So, you're really doing this today? No chickening out this time?" Veronica asks and Mason shoves her shoulders lightly causing her to laugh.
"Yes, I'm doing it today." He rolls his eyes. "You got your camera ready?" He asks and Veronica nods with an excited smile.
"She made sure she had a lot of space free and even let it charge the whole night." I laugh from beside my girlfriend and instead of getting embarrassed, she grins proudly.
"I can't believe my brother is finally proposing!" Veronica squeals softly, bouncing up and down on one spot causing Mason and I to both laugh.
Mason has been planning this for so long and wanted to propose a while ago but then we found out about Veronica and Kate both being pregnant. He didn't want to propose for two reasons.
First, because he didn't want Kate to think he's only proposing because she's pregnant and not because he genuinely wants to, and secondly, the risks of Veronica's pregnancy was at the forefront of everyone's mind. We all just focused on spending as much time with each other as we possibly could.
One day Mason, Veronica, Matt and I were all sitting in the den when Veronica asked why he hasn't popped the question yet when he had the ring hidden in Veronica's room. He ended up getting one hell of a scolding from his little sister for putting it off all for her sake.
Veronica wasn't happy with him when she found out the possibility of her losing her life was keeping him from doing something so important. She called him a "Stupid fucking idiot" for letting our situation stop him from making him and Kate happy. The chick was already carrying his children, proposing to the girl would only make her happier.
On Friday, Mason showed up at my house and told us he was going to do it on Sunday, which happens to be today, at our Sunday lunch. Veronica has been bouncing with excitement ever since and literally had me hide her phone away from her so she wouldn't accidently spill the secret.
Veronica's excitement rubbed off on Mason until now. Now the guy is just nervous as hell.
"I promise to help with your nervous, Captain." Veronica grins widely and Mason just raises an amused brow at her. "I'm proud of you, you know?" Veronica suddenly says, sporting a proud smile as she stares up at her brother.
Mason looks surprised before the corners of his lips tug up. "Thanks, Speedy. It means a lot coming from you." He says, pulling his sister into a hug. "I love you."
"I love you too." She hugs him back.
When the two siblings pull away, the three of us make our way out of Mason's room where his two newborn baby girls lay sleeping and downstairs to where everyone else is. Veronica is actually supposed to be relaxing in bed but Sundays she refuses to stay in bed. Saying it's family time.
The four parents are inning and outing of the kitchen and backyard where a long table has been set up for us to all eat as they set the table while the rest of us are just chilling around, helping where we're needed. When Mason sends Veronica one subtle nod, she jumps up from my lap and rushes to her room, saying she needs to pee.
Why she used that excuse when there's a bathroom right down the hall on the first floor is beyond me, but luckily no one is really paying attention to my suspicious girlfriend.
Just as Veronica comes walking back down the stairs, my dad calls out saying that the food is ready and everyone starts making their way out to the backyard.
"Hey, you ready?" I ask and Mason nods, rubbing the palms of his hands on his sweatpants covered thighs. " Go get in position, bro." I give Mason a pat on the shoulder and he gives one last nod before turning around and walking away.
