It is finally game day and the whole school is buzzing with energy.
Crenshaw High is the kind of school that will get all energized whenever there's a game. It doesn't matter whether it soccer, football, basketball, softball, if we play against another school, they'll get all hyped up.
Today is the first game of the season and both the girls and boys soccer teams have a game today.
Lately, Veronica and I have been spending a lot of time together. It's like, ever since our little confession session, the two of us grew a lot more comfortable around each other. She's managed to bring me out of the little bubble I've created for myself and everyone noticed.
Veronica and I now not only hug every morning, which shocked our friends at first, but we also sit next to each other in English, Physics and Maths. It seems like we're the only two that didn't noticed our change in behavior until River pointed it out one day at our lunch table. I had my arm around her shoulders while her head rested on my chest. When River called us out, Veronica's face coloured a dark shade of red.
Rumors started spreading like wildfire around the school and none of them made Veronica look good. Girls would glare hard at her while the guys would smirk at her. Some even tried hitting on her, saying if I 'stuck around' she must have been doing something right.
When I found out, Matt and I dealt with him, and well, lets just say, Devin is no longer on the football team and may or may not be suspended for being caught naked in the girls locker room.
I also started tutoring Veronica with her bio, and at first, she was one hell of a stubborn student, but eventually, she started understanding the work better. Veronica hates bio, and I didn't realize just how much until I started helping her.
I'm not a very patient person, but with Veronica, I was surprised by how much patience I had with her. I encouraged her, motivated her. I also may or may not have bribed her with a strawberry milkshake and a dark chocolate brownie. That sure as hell got her to focus.
She ended up passing a very unexpected test Mr. September decided to grace them. That day, when lunch came around, she ran and literally jumped in my arms when she saw me, squealing as she showed me the big fat B+ in the top corner of her page. I even got a kiss to the cheek.
I felt so proud, not just with myself, but of her too.
I pull up in my usual parking spot just as Veronica climbs out of the car. Zayn, being the energetic little dweeb that he is, jumps out of the car and literally runs over to her, nearly sending them both tumbling to the ground. If Matt weren't there to catch her, both Zayn and Veronica would have been laying on the hard concrete ground right now.
"I swear, one day you're going to kill the poor girl." I sigh as I climb out my car. I swing my backpack over my right shoulder and lock my car.
Andrea and River are the only two that hasn't arrived yet, no shocker there. Ever since those two started dating, they'd either rock up late to school or they would come early but go their own way, which seriously pisses me off.
I mean, give me a chance to hang out with one of my best friends, you friend thief!
After greeting Matt, I pull Veronica in for a hug. Her arms snake around my neck and I hide my face in hair. Her coconut scented shampoo fills my nose, making me feel so content.
"Morning Firefly." I whisper in her hair.
Her arms tighten slightly. "Morning." She greets as she pulls back, a shy smile dancing on her lips making the corners of mine curl upwards.
As the four of us start walking towards the entrance of the school building, I intertwin my fingers with Veronica's.
"You ready for your game today, Ve-Bear?" Zayn beams and Matt laughs causing Veronica to glare at him.
