For the first time in three years, I woke up later than usual. Sure, I had woken up around 04:50am due to my nightmares, but for the first time, I managed to actually fall asleep again after, and without even realizing it.
Laying in bed, the events from last night starts playing in my head, leaving me smiling. Last night was probably a breakthrough between Veronica and I. We managed to talk about random things and joked around, laughing with each other as if we didn't have one of the worst days.
There was still a lot I didn't know about her, and honestly, I really wanted to know more about her. More about what happened to her and what made her the person she is today, because it's obvious something happened.
Last night though, I felt like I got a glimpse of the real Veronica Stone. The same Veronica that sat in the passenger seat of my car on Wednesday and had the time of her life, the same Veronica I found myself wanting to see and spend more time with.
The same Veronica who managed to not only make me smile, but made me laugh too. That made me feel like Blake, and not like someone with a fucked up life.
I pull back the covers and get out of bed. Pulling on a pair of sweats over my boxers, I make my way downstairs where I find Cole and Emily both sitting by the island with a plate of waffles in front of each of them and mom leaning on the counter across from them, a cup of hot coffee in her hands.
"Good morning, honey" Mom greetd as soon as she spots me.
I walk into the kitchen and ruffle Cole's messy hair and kiss the top of Emily's head before rounding the island and pressing a kiss to mom's cheek.
"Morning, guys" I smile and receive waves from the two kids.
"You're up late today" Mom comments, taking a sip of her coffee to hide her smile.
"Yeah, I got back late last night." I shrug, trying to ignore my mom's smirk. I grab the carton of apple juice from the fridge and pour myself a tall glass full before leaning on the island opposite from Cole and Emily. "Does your sister have a time she usually fetches you from a friend or is your brother picking you up?" I ask Cole before taking a sip from my juice.
"It's Saturday." Cole shrugs, not removing his eyes from the waffles in front of him.
I raise a brow at him, not understanding what's that supposed to mean. "I am fully aware what day it is today, kid."
Cole looks up at me with furrowed brows. His eyes widen with realization and his cheeks tint a shade of pink.
"Ronnie goes to the gym every Saturday morning." He says and my eyes widen. "Well, she goes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights, and every Saturday mornings."
I suddenly get the urge to phone her and ask her to come here instead or if I could join her, but I don't. instead I nod at Cole before downing my juice. Cole and Emily run off to the living room so I turn to mom.
"I'm heading downstairs to the gym." After placing my empty glass in the sink, I make my way downstairs, but before I can even start my workout, my phone starts ringing, the name across my screen making me smile.
Sliding the green icon across the screen, I press the phone to my ear. "Firefly?"
"Morning, I'm sorry for calling this early, but can you send me your address please?" Her voice is soft over the phone. It's this calming kind of smooth and gentle.
"Miss me already?" I tease, smirking. I can already picture her rolling her eyes, only making me want to laugh.
"Keep telling yourself that, but I need to fetch Cole, remember? My little brother that stayed over at your place? You remember him, right?" She jokes and I bite back a laugh, deciding to play along instead.
