As I'm sitting with my brother and his wife, the three of us all chatting about, I see my phone screen lighting up seconds before the ringtone follows shortly after. I pick up my phone and see River's name on the screen.
"Hey, what's up?" I greet, sitting back in the sofa and bringing my bent knees up to my chest.
"Hey, Sunshine." River greets and I can hear the grin in his tone. "I have something-" He says buts gets cut off by someone else.
"Hey, Ronnie! Bye, Ronnie!" Matt rushes out before the line goes dead. I pull my phone away from my ear and stare at the screen with a raised brow before shrugging and tossing the phone beside me.
"Who was it?" Mason ask, turning to me with a raised brow.
"River and Matt being weird." I shrug before turning to Mason with a raised brow. "Why aren't you with the guys?" I ask, only just realizing he's supposed to be with them.
"I have a meeting soon." He says, looking down at his watch. "Shit, I'm supposed to be getting ready!" He jumps up, grabs his sports bag before running up the stairs causing Kate and I to laugh.
Back at prom, River and I had a conversation where he told me the truth about him and Andrea's relationship. He told me how it was never his intention to make things official with her but, after getting into a fight about labeling their situationship, he decided to just make it official.
He admitted that it was a selfish thing to do because apparently he was still trying to figure out his feelings, but he also didn't want to make things awkward in the group, especially since Blake and I only just started hanging out.
I should have been upset with him for leading Andrea on, but I honestly just felt bad for the guy. He put himself through all that just to prevent things from getting awkward within our group. He admitted his feeling for her became genuine somewhere along the line, but he also felt her actions started to disgust him.
He told me about wanting to break up with her sooner until she told him about the pregnancy. I was shocked, but I felt bad for him. Just when he got the courage to get himself out of that toxic relationship, she throws that curve ball at him.
Then I find out why they were always fighting. Because of me.
Did I know? Hell no! Did I feel like shit? Fuck yes!
For weeks I thought it was all my fault their relationship didn't work out. Especially since River ended up breaking up with Andrea later that night at prom and she threatened to keep his baby from him. Things got so hectic from there on that I couldn't help but blame myself.
Andrea cut herself off from all of us. She wanted nothing to do with any of us, especially me. In fact, she wanted nothing to do with anyone that was associated with me. To say I was hurt by that would be an understatement. She was my best friend, but somehow things changed and I only figured out when it was too late.
When Zac was born, everything just blew up from there. Lawyers were even involved as Andrea and River fought for custardy. I was scared, not for what would happen to them but for what would happen to baby Zac.
Thankfully, Andrea' parents and Jake stepped in before things got worse than they already were and managed to get the two to agree on shared custardy.
But now River is planning on fighting for full custody over Zac because apparently Zac hates living with Andrea and her new boyfriend.
Zac hates living with his mom. When River fetches him, the poor boy looks like he couldn't get away from that place fast enough and when it's time for him to go back to Andrea's, River has a hard time getting him to go home.
