Lunch with the Stone family went better than I had expected it to. Sure, I knew it would go great since Lynn and Ben are pretty cool and my mom loves meeting new people, but I didn't expect it to go that well.
My mom nearly slipped up about the racing but, luckily, covered it quickly by saying I work as a mechanic. I wanted to burst out laughing when she said that, seeing as that was the exact same excuse Veronica and Mason used on their parents, and I could tell Mason, Matt and Veronica were holding back their laughter.
I also didn't miss the confused look Emily threw my way. She knows I'm not a mechanic, well, I don't work as one.
After we had desert, our parents decided to pop open a bottle of wine while Cole and Emily disappeared to the backyard with Spike. The rest of us all decided to hang out downstairs in the den, but about an hour in, Matt left, saying he didn't want to fifth wheel. Not long after he left, Veronica and I disappeared to her room.
She set up her laptop and the two of us snuggled up while watching her favorite series; The Vampire Diaries. By the time it was time for us to leave, Veronica was fast asleep, so after dropping mom and Emily off at home, I took a two hour drive to visit my dad.
Seeing as it was already 10:50pm, the nurse only allowed me to stay for forty minutes. I spent that forty minutes telling dad everything that's happened since the last time I spoke to him, which was Tuesday afternoon after soccer practice.
I told him about my little date with Veronica on Friday and the gym session we had with her brother and our little moment after. I then told him about the lunch we had today. I only had forty minutes with him, but it was worth it. I made it a point to visit him at least twice a week minimum.
By the time I got home, it was already past two in the morning. I didn't even bother showering. Instead, I lazily brushed my teeth before stripping down to my boxers and climbing into bed where sleep found me so easily.
I burst into my first period class late and the whole class goes silent as everyone turns to face me, the girls already undressing me with their eyes. I roll my eyes as I walk in and head straight to my seat. After apologizing to my bio sir, I get to my desk, where my friends sit silently laughing at me, and get out my writing book before sending Veronica a text.
Me: Sorry I didn't see you this morning, Firefly. I just got to school.
After shoving the phone back into my pocket, I then start copying down the notes from the board, when suddenly my phone vibrates in my pocket.
My Beautiful Irritation: Now only? Why so late?
The day she gave me her number I didn't find the need to change her contact name. she's no doubt beautiful, one would have to be blind to think otherwise, and I really did find her irritating. In my mind, it was the best way to describe her. Still is.
Me: Overslept and had to drop Emily at school too.
She doesn't answer again and I continue copying the notes from the board. It feels like days have passed before the bell rings, signaling the end of the first period.
I hurriedly stuff all my things in my bag, ignoring my friends teasing me, and dash out of the class. Finally I get to see her!
Walking into my English class, I find her sitting on top of the desk, her feet swinging as she chats with the kid that sits in the desk in front of hers, well, ours. Seeing her laughing freely with him causes an annoying wave of jealousy to hit me, but I ignore it and continue walking towards her. As if she can feel my presence, she looks up and the minute her eyes meet mine, her face lights up with a wide smile.
