We returned to school, work, and courses. While my brothers and cousins enjoyed their time at school with their significant others, I had school and work to keep me busy.

One night, my brothers and cousins went to some college party while I stayed home. If someone catches me at a party, then I'm screwed. I made some popcorn and got a pop before settling in to watch a movie.

As I hit play, I heard a knock at the door. I set the remote down on the coffee table and answered it. Shaun was standing at the door.

"Is this a bad time?" Shaun asked me.

"Shouldn't you be a party?" I asked.

"I don't go to parties or out much. Since Travis, I keep my distance from most people," Shaun said.

"Yeah, I noticed," I replied. I didn't need this right now. All I wanted to do is watch a movie alone.

"It took a lot of therapy sessions to understand that not everyone will hurt me. My therapist said if I take it slow with someone, it will help," Shaun mentioned.

"That's good, but I learned people would hurt you even when they say they won't. You know, like when you treated me like an animal because of what I did to Sable even though she had people jump me. Then again, it's okay for you needing time," I said.

"Pax," Shaun said.

"No one cares to hear the complete story, so excuse me while I go back to my movie," I said, closing the door.

People will say that I'm acting harsh, but when you get burned enough, you learn. If I keep my distance from people, I won't get burned or hurt. I went back to my movie, enjoying myself. I was better at doing things alone.

I sighed as I stood on the other side of the door. I was ready to open up to someone, and the person rejects me. I turned as Parker looked at me, shaking his head.

"Well, that was a bust," I said as Parker gave me a look.

"So? It doesn't mean you give up," Markus told me.

"That was a stupid idea," I told both.

"My brother is stubborn, but that doesn't mean you stop," Parker told me.

"I need a miracle," I said as Parker and Markus looked at me and smiled.

"Leave that to us," Parker said as I looked at him suspiciously. What did the two of them have planned?

After the third movie, I called it a night. I went upstairs and changed, then went to bed. I fell asleep since I haven't slept well since everything that happened.

Thirty minutes later, someone awoke me with their hand over my mouth and wearing a mask. My eyes widened as the person wrestled with me while two other people zip-tied me quickly. Then someone put duct tape over my mouth before placing a hood over my head. What the fuck?

Someone lifted me, carrying me, although the person was rough. The next thing I knew, someone shoved me into something, and I lay there like a lump. I'm sure with the way it's going for me. Lately, this is the cherry on top.

I flopped around like a fish as I felt myself moving. I worked at getting loose; then, I felt the movement stop. I heard a door open as someone yanked me out of whatever container that held me. I'll take a guess; it's a vehicle. The person dragged me until they stopped, then lifted me.

I stood there as someone removed the hood from my head. I stood in front of Shaun, then looked to see Grandpa and my uncles standing there along with Parker and Markus.

Nixon turned me around to face him. "I will remove the tape, but you listen to what Shaun says," Nixon said as he ripped off the tape.

"Sonofabitch!" I yelled.

"I beg your pardon; your grammy is not. You have some respect. Now, listen to what twinkle toes have to say," Nixon said, smacking me upside the head. He turned me to face Shaun.

"Look, I know that I hurt you, but I don't see you like an animal. Yes, it shocked me what you did, but I found out from others the bullshit that Sable did to you. I regret hurting you in high school because I hid who I was. I hurt you countless times, and for that, I'm sorry. The worst part is that I wish that I never did because I'm in love with you. When you're lonely, you look to someone to fill that loneliness when your heart aches for someone else. I know that you don't believe me, and you have every reason not to, but my heart wants you, Pax," Shaun told me.

I looked at Shaun, figuring out what I wanted to say.

"The heart wants what the heart wants," someone said as I turned to see Uncle Noah smiling.

"Take a chance," Nathan said.

"You like Shaun, he likes you, and we're one big happy family," Nixon added.

"God, you're slow. Shaun likes you, and you're stubborn," Nolan said.

We all looked at Nolan, who shrugged.

Grandpa walked towards me as I stood there.

"Pax, I know you're hurt, but don't make the same mistakes I did with your nana. I hurt her countless times because I acted stupid," Grandpa told me.

"It took you long enough," Nixon said to Grandpa. Grandpa rolled his eyes.

I turned to Shaun, who looked at me.

"It's disturbing that you enlisted my family to pull the same stunt that I pulled on you," I said.

"Yeah, that wasn't my idea. It was Parker and Markus's idea. I wanted to talk to you, and they said this would work," Shaun reasoned.

I chuckled as I shook my head.

"If you untie me, we will talk," I reasoned as Shaun smiled. Grandpa pulled out a knife and opened it; then, he cut off my zip ties. Everyone left us to talk alone.

"So," I said as I had my hands in my pockets.

"So," Shaun said.

"You're in love with me?" I asked, tilting my head slightly.

"Yeah, and it's crazy that I spent many hours in therapy working up the nerve to tell you," Shaun said, raising a finger.

"I see," I said.

"But if you're unsure of us, I understand. If you want to go slow, we can go slow," Shaun offered.

I shifted in my spot, kicking the ground with my foot. I didn't want to get kicked in the teeth again. Rejection is a bitch.

"I don't know," I said with hesitation.

"What do you want me to do to prove that I'm serious?" Shaun asked me.

"Show me," I answered. Shaun looked at me with anxiousness. "Show me what you're serious about and not telling me what I want to hear. You told me you would wait for me and didn't. You told me to wait for you, and when I attempted with you, you pushed me away. My family might not understand my reasons, but they never had someone play with their feelings as you did with me."

"Okay, then I will show you. Whatever I have to do, I will do it," Shaun said.

"I'll believe it when I see it," I said, shrugging. I turned and walked away from Shaun.

"What the hell is wrong with this kid?" Nixon asked the others.

"Actions speak louder than words for Pax," Noah reasoned.

"What bullshit is that?" Nixon asked.

"The kind that people who get hurt want. I know I had to do the same thing," Grandpa told his brothers.

I walked over to Parker and Markus.

"Can you take me home?" I asked.

"Yeah, little brother, we can," Parker answered as I got into the car, and they took me home.

I know people don't understand why I didn't fall into Shaun's arms, but when you get burned enough with someone, you're gun shy. If Shaun wanted me, then he will prove it. If he doesn't, then I move on with my life.

I hoped that Shaun does.
