They say in life; we have choices. Our decisions provide an outcome that doesn't always benefit us. Sometimes it causes heartache if we like it or not.

Nora would find this out the hard way when she became honest about her feelings, causing a rift between cousins and one to leave. The situation would escalate at a party we had, inviting different people. We had a party to help Patton out, not realizing it was a disaster in the making.

"You want to have a party?" Payton questioned me.

"Sure, why not? We can invite the usual cast of characters and give Patton a chance to spend time with Britt," I suggested.

"A party where you will have family along with other people here. Are you insane?" Parker asked.

"No, plus this will allow me to deal with my anxiety. It doesn't have to be big," I reasoned.

"It's been a while since we had a party," Parker mentioned.

"Yeah, but we usually have family," Payton reminded Parker.

"Not if we keep it small," Parker suggested.

Payton looked at Parker and me, then agreed to us having a small party. What could go wrong?

Matthew

I didn't know what to do about my growing feelings for Nora. I tried to stay away from her because of Mason. I didn't like how he acted with her. Mason watched Nora like a hawk, letting his insecurities get the best of him. No woman should deal with a guy who acts like that, but I also didn't want my cousin's issues.

Dad was in town, and I met with him at a coffeehouse. I wanted to get his perspective on the situation. I walked into the place and found my dad sitting in a booth, drinking coffee. I joined him.

I ordered a coffee as Dad sat there, drinking his coffee.

"How is school?" Dad asked me.

"School's fine, but I have a slight problem," I answered.

Dad looked at me as I explained about Nora and Mason. He listened until I finished telling him everything.

"What do you think?" I asked as the waitress brought my coffee.

"Matthew, you have choices in your life that can affect you and the surrounding people. I didn't realize that you like this girl," Dad mentioned.

"I met Nora when she came to visit Britt last year. I didn't know who she was but found her intriguing. Nora made me laugh," I said.

"Has anything happened between you and Nora?" Dad asked.

"No," I replied.

Dad looked at me as I drank my coffee. "Matthew, I know that it tears you apart to feel this way about someone who's with your cousin," Dad said.

I set my cup down and looked at Dad. "Nora is the first girl that made me laugh since Sadie," I admitted.

Dad looked at me with concern.

"But I know how important family is to us," I said.

Dad said nothing and rubbed his chin. I knew he was thinking about the situation.

"All I can say is if it happens, it will," Dad told me.

I looked at Dad.

"Matthew, I know you developed feelings for this girl, but if the girl is right for you, you will find your way to her," Dad said.
