My cousins helped celebrate my birthday, and I got a surprise in the form of Matthew. He showed up at the house with Payton. I gave Matthew the biggest hug.

"Man, what are you doing here?" I asked Matthew, looking at him.

"Payton called me and said you were pouting since I left. He said it would make you feel better if I came for your birthday. Here I am," Matthew said, smirking.

I shook my head and chuckled.

"I'm glad Payton has a big ass mouth because it's not the same without you," I told Matthew.

"You do what's best for you. College isn't for me," Matthew replied, shrugging.

"Whatever the case is, I'm glad you're here," I said, hugging Matthew again.

Matthew and I grew up together because our moms lived near each other. Besides Payton, I was closest to Matthew. The other cousins said hi to Matthew; then, we celebrated my birthday.

Later on, I cornered Matthew about Nora.

"So, did you see Nora?" I asked.

Matthew gave me a look.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" I questioned.

"Because I didn't come to see Nora. I came to see you," Matthew told me.

I looked at Matthew and arched an eyebrow. "So you'll raise cats and plants," I mentioned.

Matthew rolled his eyes as I shrugged.

"No, tool, I don't like cats, and I'm not a botanist," Matthew retorted.

"Well, you need a hobby since you refuse to see a certain brunette," I retorted.

"I have a hobby; I work on cars and a house. One pays, and the other gives me a roof over my head," Matthew countered.

"Yeah, that is a fun life. You work and don't date. I can see it now; you're that old man who sits on his front porch and yells at kids to get off your lawn. Hey, get off my lawn, you brats!" I mocked, waving my hand in the air. "Would you like a cane now or later?"

"Cute," Matthew answered.

It surprised me that Matthew came to Markus's birthday party. I didn't expect him to show up here.

"Maybe It's a good thing Nora is working tonight," Britt mentioned.

"Even if Nora wasn't working, I doubt she would come to a birthday party with Mason here," I replied.

"How is it that Mason can forgive Matthew, but not Nora? Nothing happened between Nora and Matthew," Britt mentioned to me.

"Because it's more difficult to disown family than walk away from a girl or guy," I reasoned.

"I don't know about that. I disowned my dad," Britt told me.

"That's because your dad is a dick and interfered with us," I reminded Britt.

I kissed Britt, and Pax interrupted our kiss.

"Don't you have a guy to keep you busy?" I questioned Pax.

"Yes, and Shaun's socializing with people. I'm not clingy," Pax told me.
