Do you know how, when something explodes, you take cover? Well, that didn't matter, considering my old man showed up along with cousins Maverick, Larkin, Major, Luna, and Lex. Britt went to take care of Nora while the rest of us dealt with the adults.

I let the other handle their parents while my old man and I bonded.

"How's it going?" Dad asked me at a diner.

"Considering the shit hit the fan swell," I retorted, earning a look from Dad.

"Kaxon," Dad said.

"Yeah, I know. I should monitor the others, but it's difficult with their moaning over their girls and guy," I sighed.

Dad arched an eyebrow at me.

"I help the family and end up with a fiancée," I mentioned.

"Say what?" Dad asked.

"Oh, you didn't hear? Well, my cousins thought it would be cool to ask this chick for help. I did, then she told her old man that we got engaged," I replied, nodding.

"I will go out on a limb and call bullshit," Dad said.

"It's a joke," I said, rolling my eyes.

Dad shook his head and chuckled. As I bonded with Dad, Jesse showed up, which is perfect timing.

"Dad, this is Jesse Shaw," I introduced my dad to Jesse. They shook hands, and Jesse joined us. I might as well let Jesse meet my old man since I met her dad.

Mason

I laid on my bed as I wiped my eyes. All I wanted is to reunite with Nora. All I got is a broken heart. I wanted my parents. Tears fell as I cried.

I heard a knock at the door as I turned to see Ma and Dad at the doorway.

"Mason," Ma said, holding out her arms. I got up and walked over to her. I threw my arms around Ma and hugged her as I cried. Dad rubbed my back as I buried my head into her.

"Mas," Dad said as I looked up at him. "It will be okay."

I lowered my head as my parents comforted me.

Markus

I sat on Matthew's bed and sighed. Everything is a mess now, and I wish my parents were here. I didn't think things would turn out this way, and Matthew leaving.

"Markus?" I heard someone say.

I looked up to see my parents standing there. They walked into the bedroom and sat on each side of me.

"Things are a mess," I told my parents.

"They're not a mess, just different," Ma told me.

"Who called you?" I asked.

"Payton called Lex and said you boys needed some help. Lex called us," Ma answered.

I looked at my parents. "Matthew left," I whispered.

"We know. Michael and Lyric called us," Dad said.

I looked at my parents.

"This isn't the place for Matthew, and he knew it," Dad reasoned.

"You didn't see what happened with Mason," I mentioned.

"Do you mean about the girl?" Ma asked.

I looked at Ma.

"It's more than about a girl. When Sadie died, it affected Matthew more than you all knew. The same thing happened with Lyric when Daniel died. Grief changes people, and it changed Matthew. It makes little sense now, but it will later," Ma explained.
