Pat

We returned to school, and Mason asked Skylar out on a date with my cousins' encouragement.

"Okay, here's your chance. Walk up to Skylar and ask her out," Kaxon advised, rubbing Mason's shoulders.

"Is that necessary?" Pax asked.

"Is what necessary?" Kaxon questioned.

"That you're rubbing Mason's shoulders," I answered.

Kaxon and Mason looked at Pax and me as we gave them a strange look. Mason smacked Kaxon's hands away, then cracked his neck, which made us groan. I hate that sound.

"Here I go," Mason said, walking towards Skylar, who was talking to someone.

We watched and took bets. Mason walked towards Skylar. He reached Skylar, and she looked at him. Mason smiled as Skylar smiled. That's a good sign. Then Mason turned and walked back to us.

"That was quick," Pax mentioned.

"Mason said nothing," Kaxon huffed.

I held out my hand. "Pay up," I demanded. Pax and Kaxon each put a five-dollar bill in my hand. I shoved the money into my back jean pocket, then walked towards Mason. I stopped Mason and turned him around as Kaxon and Pax watched us.

I pushed Mason towards Skylar. We reached Skylar.

"Mason wants to take you on a date. Say yes," I told Skylar.

Mason gave me a weird look.

"I already won the bet," I mentioned, shrugging.

Mason rolled his eyes.

"Yes, I would like to go on a date with you," Skylar said.

"Who? Pat?" Mason questioned.

I smacked Mason on the back of the head. He glared at me and rubbed his head.

"Not me, tool. I have a girl," I said.

"Oh," Mason said, confused. Then the lightbulb turned on in his brain. "Oh," Mason exclaimed.

My cousin is slow on the uptake. I shook my head and walked away, then walked over to Pax and Kaxon.

"I think Mason spent too much time in cornfields," Kaxon mentioned.

"You think?" I asked.

"How did you make valedictorian?" Pax questioned Kaxon.

"Are you still pissy that you shared the title with me?" Kaxon asked Pax.

"The title belongs to us fair and square," Pax told Kaxon, referring to Pax and me.

"Not if I earned it," Kaxon smirked.

Pax looked at Kaxon, annoyed. Pax hated sharing valedictorian with Kaxon. It didn't matter to me since we left high school.

"What does it matter? We left high school and all the bullshit that went with it," I reasoned.

"When did you become philosophical?" Pax asked me.

"The minute he got his cherry popped," Kaxon answered.

Pax and Kaxon looked at me. I looked at them with annoyance.

"No, dipshit. I learned that some things aren't as important as others," I replied.

"Uh, huh, sure," Pax and Kaxon said, shaking their hands.

"Let's get back to the Mason issue. Do you think he will screw this up?" Kaxon asked.
