Skylar

We started the new semester. I followed Dad's advice and attempted to talk to other girls who ignored me. I checked to make sure I looked decent and didn't smell. Every time I said hi, girls walked past me. I even said hi to boys, and they did the same thing.

Jesse would tell me not to worry about it and stop trying so hard. That's easy for her to say, considering people talk to her, and she hates people. I went to class and found an empty seat. I sat next to a girl who's doodling. Okay, here goes nothing.

"Hi, I'm Skylar. You don't have to say hi back, but my dad wants me to talk to people. He worries that I will develop a serial killer complex. I say that he worries too much. If I'm talking too much, say so, and I will zip my lips," I said, moving my hands and buttoning my lips.

The girl looked at me and smiled, then laughed.

"I got you to laugh, which means I'm not boring. Dull people suck because they don't laugh ever. Take my Uncle Frazier. He makes people laugh and enjoys it. He is the most lovable guy around here. Grandpa thinks he's an idiot," I rambled as the girl chuckled.

Perhaps making friends isn't bad, but I could be wrong.

"I'm Nora," the girl introduced herself.

Then I realized who the girl was. She dated the guy that I like, fantastic.

"How long have you been attending school?" Nora asked me.

"This is my first year," I answered.

Nora looked at me with surprise.

"I don't have many friends," I added while cringing. Nora looked at me with confusion. "I don't have any friends except for my sister Jesse. It's not like anyone talks to me," I admitted.

"Have you tried?" Nora questioned.

"Well, a little," I replied.

"A friendship takes time to build. I will talk to anyone. It makes life more fun," Nora said with a smirk.

I giggled.

"Look, since I'm not dating anyone and don't intend to date for a long time, we can hang out. You know, girl power, and all the stuff that goes with it," Nora offered.

"I would like that," I agreed, smiling.

Class started and making a friend made me happy, except now I can't pursue the guy I like because that's wrong. Guys have a code, and so do girls. You can't date someone or seek the person if they are your friend's ex. It's not a good thing.

Okay, so I keep my friendship with Nora and disregard my crush on Mason. I can do this, I hope.

We sat in class as the professor put us in pairs to help each other with the assignments. Nora and I got paired together, which made me happy. We had to work on a project together, creating a graphic novel for our last assignment. I hope Nora can draw because I suck at it.

We left class and went to get coffee.

"So, since I can't write for shit, how about if I draw?" Nora offered.

"Whew, I'm glad you offered to draw because I draw stick figures," I answered. Nora laughed.

We sat down at a table and ordered coffee and a pastry.

"So, why did you decide not to date anyone?" I asked Nora while eating my muffin.

"Because I chose another guy over my ex. My ex told me to choose, and I did, but the other guy left," Nora answered.
