Chapter Seventeen: Scott

I slowly take in my surroundings. Kevin takes me with him to go to the store since I've known Mitch and kirstie longer. We go to the clothing section and start talking.

"Scott...?" Kevin starts. Not quite knowing what to say.

"Yes beta?" I answer immediately.

"Kevin. Please. I guess Avi didn't tell you but we don't use ranks unless told otherwise, like professional settings."

"Oh okay sorry."

"You don't need to be sorry Scott. You didn't know. Now...could I get a little of your background? Its my job to do intakes of anyone staying in the house. Or joining the pack. Of course, we don't know if you want to join the pack yet."

"Well, as you know my name is Scott. Im 20. Alpha."

"That's not what I meant Scott and you know it. All of that I can look up on the council records. I mean your background like who are your parents? What was our home life like? All that stuff."

"I'm not entirely sure I want to talk about that right now. It's a lot and we're in a store. Later?"

"Of course. No pressure. Just know that if you even need to talk me and Avi are never too busy."

"Okay thank you kevin."

"You're welcome. Now you don't happen to know Kirstie's bra size would you? I know that really weird but I figured since you guy got her some clothes you might now."

"Umm yeah we actually never got that far. Mitch got his heat in the middle of the store and we had to leave."

"He's had his heat? Huh I didn't think males omegas had heats. How'd he manage to get through it?"

I feel my pale complexion turn very red.

"You didn't?"

"No actually. I'm not his alpha so I didn't. I may have had a shitty childhood but I know the rules."

"What about Kirstie?"

"When I asked her she said about three weeks to a month? This was about a week ago. I only asked so that I could prepare myself. Containing myself with Mitch was very hard."

"Well its a good thing you know the rules. Sex is a serious thing with our kind. Its meant for our mates. Getting caught with another other than your mate can get your stripped of everything or it can cause a full permanent shift and you to be mateless.
Meaning no mate."

"Yeah I know what it means. Don't worry. Still got the v-card. All I did was help. I offered Kirstie...help."

"Speaking of Kirstie. How long has she been sick?"

"Uhh she hasn't been feeling good for a couple days. But that could be from lack of food and dehydration. We've been hiding so that council members don't find us. With Mitch's I'm surprised they haven't. But shes been feeling sick on and off for the last day or so. Today's the first day shes thrown up though."

"Well I'm gonna keep an eye on her make sure nothings wrong. Get sone nutrition in her. In all of you. It may have only been a week but you all look hungry. From the look in your eyes to the way you hold yourselves. You can tell you're hungry."

I pick up a deep blue sports bra and look at it. "This should do." I say handing it to the beta.

"You sure?" He says.

"Yeah. I have been basically living with her for a week. I know what both her and Mitch look like physically."

Kevin looks at me with a raised eyebrow

I realize how this sounds and quickly reword my sentence.

"I just mean I've studied them in case I ever needed to report a missing persons case or something. For descriptions. I swear I'm not some creep. I would never do that. Especially to Kirstie. Its part of being an alpha. Rule 17: Know you pack. That means everything. From their physical features and bodily appearances to what their reds are. Yes granted they aren't my pack, but I love those two. They are my family now."

I can feel myself getting upset and I know kevin can sense it. His eyes turn yellow when he looks at me and I know my eyes are red.

"Sorry Kevin I was just thinking. I'll tell you later."

"Okay Scott. I'm not gonna push you but we will need to know. Soon."

"Yeah. I know. Lets go pay and get back to the house."

"Yeah lets do that. I need to check y'alls vitals and stuff anyway."
