Chapter 58: Avi

Watching Scott play with Kirstie was painfully cute. He's gonna be a great father. The way he talked to her was perfect.

Currently shes about 6. The nurse wasn't lying when she said Kirstie regressed. She did, and it was adorable.

"I's sweepy" Kirstie says. Scott gives her a hug and a kiss on the forehead and looks at me.

"Go home. Be with Mitch. He needs you." I tell him before he nods and walks out.

I look at Kirstie who's eyes were droopy.

"Kit?" I say softly.

"Huh?" She looks at me.

I chuckle. "You're adorable."

"Yes. I. Am." She says with a little sass. Making my heart melt. I look out the door and see that Scott hadn't left yet. I give kirstie a kiss on the cheek and go to Scott.

"It's been a long day. I meant what I said. Go home. Mitch has barely seen you and he kinda had a bombshell dropped on him. A bombshell that you're responsible for, might I add." I point out.

He chuckles, nods and walks out.

I go back to Kirstie who is crying because the doctor is trying to put an oxygen mask on her.

"No. No. No. No." She begged.

"Baby, baby. It's okay." I assure her. She looks at me with big, scared eyes.

"Pwease, no." She whimpered.

"Its okay, baby. It's gonna help you. It's magic." I tell her. With her mindset, it should help.

"M-magic?" She sniffles. The nurse is giving me a look that tells me I'm doing good.

"Yeah, it's got uh, fairy magic. It's gonna make you feel lots better." I smile.

"Bettew?" She had a small smile on her face.

"Yeah! Lots better. When you wake up, you'll feel like a whole new person." I get a little closer to her. "I let you in on a little secret. When I get scared or I don't feel good, I use a little fairy magic to make me feel better." I tell her.

"Weawy?" She starts smiling even bigger.

"Really. Now, the nice lady next to you is going to put that on you." I nod towards the mask in the nurses hand. "You gonna feel so much better when you wake up."

"Pwomise?" She stuck out her bottom lip.

"I promise. Now got some sleep. I l-" I cut myself off as I realize what I almost said. "Uh, I'll see you when you wake up." I smile, kiss her forehead, and turn to walk out.

She tightens her grip on my hand. I look at her. "Dank you."

"You're welcome." I smile and walk out.

I sit down and pull out my phone and text Kevin.

A: I need help.

K: What?

A: I almost told Kirstie that I loved her.

K: And? What's wrong with that?

A: Well, she sort of has the mentality of a child at the moment.

K: Oh. That may be an issue. Have you talked to her about your feelings?

A: Sort of. Look, I almost slipped. I don't want to scare her. Based on what Scott's told me, there is a lot of underlying issues that even she hasn't faced. I think Mitch being pregnant is going to be hard for her.
