It's been a week and a half since me and Joe moved in. We have completely decorated and unpacked our bedroom - even though we weren't planning to until we finished downstairs but it just really needed doing - and the kitchen. The living room is still a tip with some of mine and Joe's things for our rooms in the attic. Today, we are going out to buy things to decorate our rooms with. I've decided I'm going to make my room really girly, so it screams "pink" and "sparkles" and everything girly. Joe, on the other hand, is making his room the complete opposite of girly. We get to the IKEA store where we are buying things for our rooms.
By the end of the shop, I have bought a baby pink shelving unit for my shoes, two Alex 9 drawers sets, a baby pink office chair and silver-grey desk, another wardrobe for even more clothes, a silver shelving unit for my jewellery, a shelving unit for my nail polish, a silver chandelier, pink and silver fairy lights, silver curtains, baby pink blinds, a mini silver sofa, pink cushions, a small TV, a mirror with silver detailing and a baby pink clock. I still need to get some paint and wallpaper and stuff, but we have to get the rest of Joe's things first. It doesn't take anywhere near as long to get Joe's things. He only really needs a new TV for his room. We then travel to get some paint and wallpaper. Joe gets some grey and black paint for his room, whereas I get baby pink. I also get some very detailed wallpaper which is, of course, baby pink and silver. By this time, it's getting quite late and we've been shopping all day.
Joe doesn't even let me carry the bags in through the front door. I know I can't lift the heavy things, I wouldn't be able to even if I wasn't pregnant - too heavy - but I could at least carry the wallpaper. I just go into mine and Joe's bedroom and lie down on the bed, feeling a little moody quite naturally. I'm not sad I can't lift anything, for crying out loud. I'm not that kind of person. I just want to help Joe instead of feeling like a worthless piece of shit, which I know I'm not. I just want to help. I begin to feel my eyelids droop and my mind getting tired as I fall asleep.
----------------'They know who we are by now.
Champions, the champions.' I sing as I paint the wall the baby pink colour. Me and Joe decided we would get our office rooms finished first so we can do our YouTube videos in them. I can hear Joe laughing from the other side of the wall. 'What?'
'Nothing. I just don't understand how you can get these lyrics.'
'I just can. Wait until you hear Gun Shot, you won't be able to even understand what they are saying!' I exclaim, continuing to paint the wall.It takes me an hour to paint the walls with the first coat of paint. I have decided to put the wallpaper on the back wall, where my makeup is going. I wander through to see how Joe is doing. He's painted two walls grey, one black, left one white. He's just wandering around the room, checking each wall to see if it is dry. 'I'm going to unpack a little more.' I inform him.
'Okay. I'll come as well.' So we unpack three boxes each and that's when I realise the only boxes left are to go into our separate rooms. The walls should be ready to re-paint in a couple of hours time. In the meantime, I ring Zoë whilst I'm waiting for the walls to dry.'Hey. Why are you ringing me at eleven at n - oh.'
'Hey. Sorry, I forgot about the time difference.' I giggle as Zo laughs.
'No probs, babes. How's everything going?'
'Fine, fine. We're practically unpacked by now and me and Joe discovered two rooms in the attic which we are using as offices and for YouTube stuff.'
'Oh, cool. And the babies?'
'Good, good. Kicking and things. Hey, how are you?' I stay on the phone to Zoë for another hour and a half until she has to go to sleep because it's half twelve at night in England. I get back to the office room to check the walls. When I open the door and climb the stairs into the attic, all the boxes have been moved up here. They used to live on our living room floor, to be moved when we had finished the two rooms. 'Joe!'
'Yeah?' Joe wanders into my office room and I point at the boxes, raising my eyebrows. 'Well, you were on the phone. I thought I'd move them for you.' Joe shrugs, wrapping his arms around my waist. 'I feel like you're doing everything right now.' Joe just laughs.
'You've done this room yourself.' He reasons, pulling me closer and kissing my forehead. 'Have you filmed your video for Sunday yet?' I ask, changing subject.
'No. I'm finishing my room tomorrow and then I'm filming it.' Joe explains.
'Right. Well, I'm going to put this second layer of paint on, then.' I smile, kissing Joe quickly. He deepens the kiss for a little while before I can continue. After I paint the walls for the second time, I help Joe finish his. He just has a few little touch-ups to do after another half hour of painting, so I put a pizza in the oven for us. I wait in the kitchen for it to cook and do a follow spree on Twitter for twenty minutes whilst the pizza is cooking. I shout Joe and serve the pizza, sitting on the white leather sofa me and Joe bought the other day. I switch on the TV and hand the remote to Joe. He wants to watch the football, of course. My phone lights up with a text from Tanya, asking how everything is going so far. I reply and we text back and forth, catching up. My phone bill is going to be horrendous. 'Joe?' I ask when we finish the pizza, 'Will you give me a hand with this wallpaper?'
'Yeah, sure.'It takes us forty five minutes to put the wallpaper up on the entire wall. It looks so girly it's untrue and I'm nowhere near finished. When I lived in my apartment, I did everything I could to glam my room into something super sophisticated because I couldn't really paint the walls pink and go all girly as I wasn't allowed. I was just never happy with the sophisticated side of things and I feel so happy that I can finally have the girly space I've wanted for so long. I begin to plan out in my head exactly where everything is going to go, feeling excited for when the room finally gets finished.
