the next morning, y/n woke from her deep slumber, instantly jumping up at the fact she would be starting at hogwarts today. she quickly got dressed, pulling on a comfortable outfit and brushed through her hair, pulling it back into a ponytail while leaving some pieces down in the front. she pulled on her shoes and glanced at her already packed trunk, smiling to herself. she walked over to the cage where willow was kept and opened the cage, letting the owl fly to her shoulder and rest there.

there was a slight knock on her wooden door, and she quickly turned to open it. her mother and father stood there, dressed and ready to go. "are you hungry?" her mother asked.

"c'mon my loves, this way." her father said, as he took long steps in front of the two girls in his life. y/n walked gracefully next to her mother, pushing her cart full of belongings while her mother held her owl cage, willow still perched on the young girls shoulder. they all walked closely together down king's cross station, until they stood between platform 9 and 10. y/n's father had already informed her on what to do so without even a second thought she ran through the pillar and disappeared.

y/f/n looked at his wife dumbfounded, while she just laughed and gave a slight shrug. "she's your daughter." with that, the married couple stepped through the pillar to meet with their daughter. they had gotten there pretty early, so the station was hardly packed with people. y/n stood, staring at the large train in disbelief until she was pulled out of her thoughts by her father.

"nervous?" he asked, a smile on his face. not even answering the question the young girl spoke up.

"dad, what house do you think i'll be in?" he sighed gently, stooping down to her level once more like he always did. he had been a proud gryffindor while her mother had been a ravenclaw due to her bright mind.

"it doesn't matter what house you're chosen for, you will still do great things in all. and remember, if you have a preference, the sorting hat takes it into account." he gently spoke to his young daughter.

y/n shook her head, "i don't have a preference. i just hope i'm placed in the one i'm really supposed to be in."

"you will be." she heard her mother say, as she bent down and kissed the top of her head. "just remember one thing," her mother started, but y/n spoke up.

"i know, i know. nobody can know yet." y/f/n looked at his daughter sadly, knowing she possessed a talent hardly any wizard or witch had.

"soon." he said. he then stood up and began getting everything ready for his daughters departure, placing her belongings in their designated spot and helping her get onto the train.

y/n sat down on a seat in one of the many empty seating areas and closed the sliding door behind her. she looked out the window to see her mother and father still standing there, waving up at her with huge smiles on their faces. the train began to fill, and soon she felt the seat beside her dip down. she whipped her head around and smiled, "ron!"

"hi y/n! are you excited?" he asked. he then looked at the dark owl sat on her shoulder and gave it a smile while stroking her feathers.

"very." y/n giggled. "yet, maybe even a little scared."

ron's eyes enlarged at the words she had spoken. "you? scared? blimey, who are you and what have you done with y/n?"

the two young children giggled until they heard the door slide open. y/n looked up. it was harry potter.

he peered in at them, shyness prominent on his face. "excuse me. do you mind? everywhere else is full."

"not at all!" y/n exclaimed, gesturing to the seat across from her and ron. harry gave a small smile of thanks and quickly sat down.

ron spoke up, "i'm ron, by the way. ron weasley. and this here is y/n. y/n y/l/n."

y/n gave harry a large smile, nodding at ron's words as harry's eyes went wide.

"y/l/n," harry began, "your mother was a friend of my mothers! my aunt used to talk about her all the time."

that's where y/n had knew him from. not because he was the "boy who lived", but simply because their mothers had been best friends when they had attended hogwarts together and all the way up to the tragic death of lily potter.

harry turned towards ron and said "i'm harry. harry potter."

ron's face morphed into one of not only confusion, but amazement as well. "so it's true! i mean, do you really have the," he stopped, pointing towards his forehead.

"the what?" harry asked, obviously confused.

y/n rolled her eyes at the boy next to her. "the scar?" she spoke up for him as it seemed he almost didn't wanna ask and come off as rude.

harry laughed slightly, "oh, yeah." he lifted his hair up off his forehead for the two to see. ron was completely fascinated.

"wicked!"

after some small talk and some snacks off of the trolley, another young girl came down the small walkway and looked at the three. she looked around at the small room and sighed, "has anyone seen a toad? a boy named neville's lost one."

ron looked at both harry and y/n before saying, "no."

the girl stood in the doorway, noticing the wands in both ron and y/n's hands. "oh, are you two doing magic? let's see, then."

y/n looked wide eyed at ron, not wanting to attempt a spell and failing at it in front of the other three. ron gave her a look and cleared his throat. "sunshine, daisies, butter mellow, turn this stupid, fat rat yellow." he pointed his wand down at his rat, scabbers, and looked sad at his failed attempt at a spell.

"are you sure that's a real spell? well, it's not very good, is it?" the girl said, continuing to show off about the simple spells she's done before and about how they have all worked.

she walked in and sat down next to harry, ron and y/n watching her curiously from the other side.

"for example," she turned her body so she was facing harry, pointing her wand at his broken glasses. "oculus reparo." harrys glasses quickly repaired themselves.

"brilliant." y/n beamed.

the girl introduced herself as hermione granger and told them that they had better change into their robes as they would be arriving soon. she then got up quickly and left the room.

ron looked at the door, completely confused but y/n just laughed.
