thirty nine

the break ended and y/n was back walking through the corridors of hogwarts. she hadn't spoken to draco throughout the time they were apart and he hadn't looked for her after they had returned.

she was upset with the way they had left things and she was upset that he had sided with umbridge. however she also knew that with her lying to him about where she had been, he was surely upset with her as well. she walked with her head down swiftly, trying to just get back to her dorm room so she could unpack.

when she arrived to the dorm, marley had already arrived and unpacked so she was just sitting on her bed with a book in hand, "y/n, there you are. i was beginning to grow worried."

y/n gave her a small smile, "yeah, i made it."

marley could tell by her monotonous voice and sad expression that she was still hurt, "it's draco again, isn't it?"

y/n sighed as she sat on her bed, "i know i shouldn't have lied to him. but we both know draco and we know how much he hates harry. he would have ran as fast as he could to get him into trouble. and he knows about umbridge and he still decided to join her little army. he didn't write over the break and i haven't seen him since i've been back."

marley stood up and walked to y/n's bed. she sat down and gently kissed the top of her best friends head as she pulled her in with her arm, "i'm sorry. maybe you should go look for him. i saw him not too long ago with blaise."

y/n shook her head, "i want to. i just," she sighed again, "i really don't want to speak to him knowing he's working for umbridge. he had a choice and he still chose to help her."

marley nodded, "well, there's no point in hiding out in our dorm all day. let's go cause some trouble."

harry's class resumed on schedule the very next day and y/n couldn't wait to go and take her mind off of draco. she had seen him when he had came back into the dorm late last night. he simply gave her a smile and walked passed, not saying a word. it broke her heart, but as of right now she had bigger things to worry about.

"make it a powerful memory, the happiest you can remember. allow it to fill you up." harry said as he walked around all of the students.

y/n took a deep breath before thinking back to her very first kiss with draco. she thought about that moment a lot. his eyes had looked at her so lovingly and his lips had been so soft. she smiled as she thought about it and raised her wand.

"expecto patronum!" she watched as a beautiful white light came from her wand. she stared as the light began to twist and turn, waiting patiently to see what animal would represent her.

it was an eagle. a bird that represented ambition, passion, and intelligence. it flew around her head gracefully and she stared at it in complete awe.

"wow, y/n. amazing work." harry said as he stepped up behind her.

y/n beamed at him proudly before turning towards marley. the blonde girl had also been successful and y/n watched as a dove appeared, an animal that represents love. marley gave her a large smile and a thumbs up causing the girl to laugh lightly.

not long after, the lights began to flicker and everyone stared at the wall in the front of the room. y/n quickly walked to the front next to ron. the mirror that had sat on the wall broke down loudly into hundreds of little pieces. the bricks began to break down and soon the wall was blown to bits, dust flying everywhere.

y/n ducked down quickly with ron as he used his arm to shield her face. he stood in front of her so if anything were to fly towards them, it would hit him and not her.

after y/n had her vision back she stood up, staring right into the face that belonged to dolores umbridge. behind her, draco held cho tightly as he smirked towards harry. he then directed his eyes towards y/n and his face instantly dropped. he looked at her with so much regret and she could only look back at him with sadness.

"get them." umbridge spat.

y/n sat on the emerald sofa in her common room alone, staring into the burning flames that the fire provided. it was late and everyone had gone to bed but she couldn't sleep. she didn't want to, not after knowing that harry would get into a tremendous amount of trouble.

she sat with her legs to her chest, dracos jumper wrapped around her body. she was startled when she heard footsteps come down the stairs but her worry was washed away when she saw draco standing there.

"y/n, why aren't you asleep?" he asked.

"why aren't you?" she didn't even look at him, she just kept her eyes on the fire in front of her.

"i couldn't sleep. i was actually coming down to do exactly what you're doing now. do you mind if i join you?"

y/n just shrugged her shoulders and the platinum haired boy sat down gently beside her. she could feel his eyes staring at her but she continued to face the front.

"do you hate me?" he whispered.

the girl sighed, now finally looking up to meet his ocean blue eyes. "i don't hate you, draco. i could never." she said, "i just wish you wouldn't have done what you did."

he sighed and looked down towards his hands. he was nervous and she could tell. "i'm sorry. i made the wrong choice. i shouldn't have sided with umbridge."

y/n shook her head, she didn't even want to talk about umbridge or harry's class right now. "i wish you would have written over the break." she said gently.

"i didn't think you would want me to. i figured it was best to just give you your space."

she nodded. to be honest, she had gotten over the fact the he sided with the woman she hated. after all, she was friends with harry and she knew that draco despised him. she also knew that the secret class would have been exposed sooner or later. she just missed her boyfriend, one of the only people who made her feel sane.

"i miss you." she said, causing his attention to go back towards her. he smiled and leaned down, pressing his lips to hers. he pulled away and let his forehead rest on hers.

"i miss you more than anything, my love."

he pulled her into his side and wrapped his arm around her tightly. they continued to watch the fire with a comfortable silence filling the air.

"c'mon, princess. we need some sleep." draco said as he stood up, reaching his hand down so she could grab it.

"together?"
