"y/n,

i'm so sorry about you and ron, dear. i know how much he meant to you. however, his actions just prove that maybe you really don't need him in your life. it's hard to lose friends my sweet girl, but i'm pleased to know that you've made new ones. pansy and marley are great girls and seem to be friends you truly need. draco, as well, seems to be a good person to keep around even if he is an arse sometimes. how are your classes going? i'm sure you are exceeding in all. you've always been so smart, definitely a trait passed down from me and not your father. the spell shop has been perfectly fine. i have even given sage a few days off with full pay as she has been an incredible employee. we all miss you so much here and can't wait for your arrival in only two weeks. me and your father can not believe you are already almost done with your third year, as just yesterday it seemed you were bouncing down the train station to start your first year. i love you deeply, my princess. sending you love from your second home,

-mum"

the night before, y/n had written to her mother, updating her on her school life. she was sat at a desk in her dorm room as she heard a soft knock at the door. she stood up and opened it to be met with her favorite pair of eyes.

"draco." she said with a smile.

"hello, beautiful. it's a perfect day outside, want to go for a walk?" he asked as he leaned against the door frame. he wasn't in his usual school attire, as it was a saturday, and was instead dressed in a nice pair of black pants with a dark green jumper, similar to the one he had given her.

"i'd love to." he grabbed her hand and they walked out of the slytherin common room. he led her out into the courtyard and then into the grass. the sun beamed down on them, giving y/n's face a beautiful glow. he looked at her and took in all of her features. she was so gorgeous in his eyes, by far the most astonishing person he had ever seen. her smile lit up every room she walked into and he could never seem to remove his gaze the moment his blue eyes landed on her.

"you're staring, malfoy." she said with a giggle.

"just admiring the view." he winked at her and she shook her head playfully.

they walked hand in hand down a dirt trail and would stop occasionally to look at random things they passed. she cherished these moments with him as they weren't usually able to spend time together away from everyone else in the enormous castle, and without magic.

"can i tell you a secret?" he asked as they had sat down on a secluded grassy landing.

"of course." she replied as she pulled a stray piece of fabric off of her shirt.

"i think i may have a slight crush on you." he said, almost shyly.

she smiled at him adoringly, "well, i may have developed a slight crush on you, as well."

he looked away from her and stared forward, thinking for a moment. "let's say, perhaps, maybe i were to ask you out. what would you say?"

y/n pondered for a moment at his words, "i would tell you i would need to think long and hard about it. you can never be to sure in this place." draco nodded his head solemnly before she gently nudged him, "i'm kidding. i would say yes."

his smile grew wider, his perfect teeth showing. "well, y/n, would you like to begin dating me?"

she giggled, "why'd you ask so formally?"

he cleared his throat, "sorry, i'm not used to this kind of stuff. y/n, would you like to be my girlfriend?"

she grabbed his hand and interlaced it with hers, kissing his knuckles, "absolutely."

they sat with each other for awhile, enjoying the company.

"can i show you something?" y/n asked as she broke the comfortable silence. he nodded his head and watched her. she knew she wasn't allowed to use her elemental abilities away from home but she had been dying to show him.

she closed her eyes and concentrated, her fingers once again igniting into orange and yellow flames. dracos eyes went wide as his mouth hung open, "how did you do that?"

she watched as the flames simply disappeared before saying, "well, my parents noticed a few years ago that i was able to control the elements with just the tips of my fingers. they didn't know where the trait had come from since neither one of them knew of anyone in our bloodline that had it, so they just assumed it was past down from an ancestor from several years ago. the correct term of the ability is super long, so we've just stuck to calling me an elemental."

"y/n you are amazing, simply amazing."

today was the last day of y/n's third year at hogwarts and she was absolutely devastated she wouldn't be able to see anyone for months. draco promised he would visit, and y/n held onto that hope.

marley and pansy were in their dorm packing, but y/n sat with draco in the common room, spending every last second with him.

"you better write every day." she said as he played with small pieces of her hair.

"i will, i promise. i'm going to go crazy not seeing you every day."

y/n only nodded, scared if she said anything she would break down into tears. she hardly ever cried, but things had started going so good with draco and she didn't want that to go away.

he kissed the top of her head, knowing she was upset. the rest of their time spent there was silent, and y/n soon pulled away as the time began to tick down way too fast. they would be boarding the train in less than an hour and y/n hadn't even started getting all of her belongings together.

they stood up and draco wrapped his long arms around her, "i'll meet you before we leave so we can walk to the train together."

he then turned away and walked up the stairs to the left, going up towards his dorm to pack. y/n turned and walked up the stairs to the right. she reached her room and opened the door.

"y/n, are you okay?" marley asked as she placed the book she was holding onto her bed. she walked over and softly pulled the sad girl into her arms.

"i'm fine, just a bit gloomy."

"cheer up, babe." pansy said as she also walked over, pulling the two into a group hug, "you'll see him soon, and don't forget you'll be seeing us this summer as well."

y/n smiled at her words. pansy was right. the three girls had made plans to have several sleep overs over the summer and she knew draco would try to visit as much as he could. things would be okay, even if they didn't seem like it now.

the time was gone, and now y/n was sat with everyone on the train. they all spoke sadly, knowing soon they would depart and leave each other for who knows how long. draco held her hand tightly as he never wanted to let go. he would often place sweet kisses to her temple, knowing she was completely crushed. it hurt him just as bad to see the girl so heartbroken.

the train ride was soon over and she gave her two friends hugs as they shortly left. she was now stood with just draco, "i'm going to miss you so much." he said softly.

"i'm going to miss you, more. i wish you didn't have to leave me."

"i'm not leaving you, definitely not. just think of this as a long vacation away from me."

"that's not funny." she said even though a slight chuckle left her mouth. y/n knew her parents were waiting for her, so she couldn't spend a whole lot of time with him. "here, i still have your ring. you can have it back now."

draco shook his head, "please, keep it, it's yours. it can act as me, even though i'll be far away. just wear it whenever you feel sad or alone."

"are you sure?" she asked, not wanting him to give her something if he truly didn't want to.

"of course, beautiful. just know that i adore you. i'll write to you as soon as i'm home." he then turned away and disappeared into the crowd of people. y/n sighed and walked towards her parents.
