christmas rolled around quite quickly, and although y/n was heartbroken due to her having to leave hogwarts and her friends for two weeks, she was more than excited and thrilled to be seeing her family.
marley, pansy, and y/n packed their trunks and bags together, walked to the train together, and sat side by side in the room tightly, shoulder to shoulder. they were all incredibly sad to be leaving each other, even if it was for a short amount of time.
the girls gossiped, pansy talking about her newfound attraction to blaise zabini, marley talking about a girl in her charms class, and y/n talking about how she found draco malfoy terribly irritating, but slightly less annoying to be around after the three months they had spent together. not soon after, the sliding door opened, revealing draco, blaise, and goyle. crabbe would be spending christmas at hogwarts and y/n laughed at the thought of him walking around the castle by himself, not knowing what to do without malfoy leading him.
"ladies." malfoy said as he sat in the middle of blaise and goyle, blaise facing pansy. y/n looked at her friend as her cheeks reddened slightly looking at the boy in front of her. y/n smiled at the 11 year old next to her who definitely didn't even know what love truly is at such a young age.
"what are we talking about?" draco questioned, looking between the three girls.
"just how i want to punch you in that pretty little face of yours." y/n smiled innocently. draco laughed.
"i'll let you do it only if you promise you'll tell me to piss off again in that sassy voice." he smirked.
y/n's face grew disgusted but she then smiled at the young boy. he was annoying, rude, and incredibly cocky yet at the same time, abnormally smart, funny, and if y/n really looked into his eyes, lonely.
the ride back to the kings cross station was fun, as the 6 of them played games, talked about school and life in general, and overall enjoyed each other's company.
the train ride was soon over before it even really started and y/n quickly gathered up willow. she squeezed her friends goodbye and grabbed the belongings she had with her on the train. she rushed out of the doors and saw her parents standing and waiting for her with open arms, her smile so big and vibrant. she ran to them and engulfed them both into giant hugs telling them how much she missed them. her father grabbed her large trunk and her mother grabbed her owls cage. the three then turned and off towards the place they called home.
~
"it feels so good to be home." y/n stated walking down the large staircase towards the kitchen where her mother was preparing dinner. the family refused to have a house elf as they wanted to properly function as a family and do things themselves; they found they didn't need to be waited on.
"there you are, my love." her mother said and smiled, "do me a favor and set the table, would you?"
"of course." y/n grabbed plates, glasses, silverware, and napkins and set them properly on the dining table. "mum?"
"yes, dear?" she watched her mother as her eyes didn't come off of the food she was cooking on the stove.
"what do you know about the malfoy family?"
y/m/n looked up with her eyebrows furrowed. she thought for a moment. "not much honestly, just that lucius is a good friend of your fathers. also, the family seems to not be very close, almost as if no love is shared. why do you ask?" she went back to cooking the meal.
y/n sighed, "just curious, i guess."
~
y/n actually ended up going back to hogwarts a few days earlier than she had planned as her father started to become very busy with work and her mother was almost always at the shop working on new spells. she didn't mind though, in fact she was more than happy to be going back. she couldn't wait to see all of her friends again.
when pansy and marley arrived, y/n had already been completely unpacked and quickly took them both in for hugs.
"how was your christmas?" y/n asked them as they began to unpack.
"marvelous." marley said, going into deep detail about her break from beginning to end. pansy just lightly rolled her eyes at the girl and laughed as she rambled on about things that weren't in the slightest bit interesting. y/n sat on her bed contently listening to her story.
~
y/n awoke to a knocking on the room door and turned to look at the clock that hung in the room. she groaned, looking at the other girls as neither one of them even stirred. she got up, letting her feet hit the cold, wooden floor and stumbled over to the door. she opened it to be met with a boy she knew all too well.
"malfoy!" y/n whisper yelled, "for the love of merlin, what can i help you with at this hour?"
"nevermind that, just quickly put on your shoes and jumper and follow me. quickly! i saw potter and his pathetic friends run across the courtyard down to hagrids shack." draco looked way too excited and y/n was quick to tell him no, explaining that what her friends were doing was none of his nor her concern.
"please! i'll do all of your homework for a week!" he begged.
y/n looked at him, a smirk now on her face, " a month."
draco wanted to argue but knew he was quickly running out of time. "fine!"
with that y/n quickly put on a pair of sneakers and a heavy, fuzzy jumper to keep her warm. the pair made their way out of the slytherin common room and quietly out a door that would lead them to the courtyard, being incredibly careful to not be caught by filch or his annoying cat.
they ran through the grass quickly towards hagrids and peered in through the window. hermione, ron, and harry sat around the large man and they watched as a small dragon hatched out from an egg that was sat in front of them. however, hagrid soon saw y/n and draco and the two outside widened their eyes and ran away quickly.
inside the small house hagrid called his own, harry spoke up, "malfoy."
ron also spoke up, "and was that, was that y/n?"
both draco and y/n ran as fast as they could to get back inside of the castle.
"brilliant," malfoy exclaimed, "this is bloody brilliant!"
"i don't understand. why is this brilliant?" she mocked him and he threw her a glare.
"i can finally get those pitiful blood traitors in trouble. i'm going straight to professor mcgonagall. you'll come with me, right?"
"absolutely not, malfoy. i said i would come with you to see what they were doing, and i did. also there is no way i am going to let you turn them in! believe it or not, they still are my friends."
"we'll see about that, won't we?"
"see about what, mr. malfoy?" professor mcgonagall said as she came around the corner, "ah, and miss. y/l/n. both out of bed i see."
y/n glared harshly at the platinum haired boy, knowing he had also gotten her in trouble. seconds later the golden trio emerged from the doors y/n and malfoy had walked through just minutes before.
"good evening." mcgonagall said at the three, causing draco to throw them an evil smile. y/n looked over at her other friends and gave them a sad look, knowing they must think that she and draco had told the professor that they were out of bed. "come with me." she spoke softly, yet sternly and made sure all 5 children were following her to her classroom.
