y/n ran through the corridors with marley, trying not to trip or stumble on any of the bricks or rocks that laid on the ground.

they ran into the great hall and were soon met with people from the order and death eaters.

a spell flew their way and y/n blocked it quickly, throwing out a spell to the death eater that casted it.

"expelliarmus!" she yelled, causing the person's wand to fly out of their hand.

another death eater came up behind that one, yelling out, "avada kedavra!"

y/n's eyes went wide as she watched the green light fly towards her. she was pushed out of the way and she watched as the spell instead hit marley. the blonde girl jolted backwards before falling to the floor.

"marley, marley," y/n mumbled as she quickly crawled over to her, "marley, no. no!"

tears fell from her eyes as she pushed the blonde hair away from the girls lifeless body. "marley! please, god no! come on, mars, please. wake up." y/n sobbed, "marley, please."

she felt numb, broken. she felt as if she didn't have the energy to fight anymore. her mind went blank and the world around her began to crumble.

the death eaters in the great hall were soon called back and they disappeared into balls of smoke. y/n hadn't even noticed, she hadn't taken her eyes away from marley.

after awhile she stood up and wiped away her tears. she let her eyes gaze around at all of the people and stopped as she noticed the weasleys.

she walked over and put a hand to her mouth at what she saw. fred laid on the ground, lifeless as well. george saw her and pulled her into a tight hug as she broke down into tears again.

"he's gone, y/n." george said as he cried into her hair, "he's really gone."

y/n pulled away and dropped down to her knees, running a hand down fred's cold face. she leaned down and kissed his forehead, "i'll love you forever, freddie."

lupin and tonks had been killed also, ripping the girls heart to pieces. it was too much, she had lost her best friend, her brother, and her mentors in the shortest time possible.

her head felt dizzy and she ran out of the great hall, she couldn't stand to be in that room any longer. she ran to the large staircase and sat down, putting her head in her hands.

"y/n." a voice said, making her look up. it was hermione and ron followed closely behind her.

"hermione." y/n cried as the girl sat down next to her, pulling her into a tight hug.

"i, um, i, i saw marley, in the great hall. i'm so sorry."

y/n sniffled and nodded her head, "it should've been me. she, she pushed me out of the way and i didn't have a chance to react. and now she's gone! she's gone because of me! i was supposed to protect her and i, i failed. she didn't deserve it, hermione. she was good and pure. she didn't have a single bad bone in her body and i asked myself everyday why she had been put in slytherin. she shouldn't have died, it should have been me!"

a tear fell from hermione's eye and she wiped it away quickly. she rubbed y/n's back and placed her head on her shoulder.

"i don't even know if draco's okay. i haven't see him at all." y/n said as she wiped away more tears.

"he's okay." ron said with a small smile and y/n nodded her head.

not long after, footsteps could be heard from behind them and the three turned their heads. harry walked down the stairs slowly.
