y/n removed herself from the stool she was sitting on and quickly made her way over to the slytherin table, the house cheering loudly for her. she glanced over at ron, hermione, harry, and even the twins, their eyes all wide with horror and confusion, wondering how a girl like her could end up in a house like that.

moreover, the sorting hat was correct. she did strive to be one of the best witches in the world and wanted her name to go down in history, and she honestly didn't really care about what she had to do to get to that point. along with a new talent her parents had seen in her not too long ago, she knew becoming one of the greatest couldn't be that hard.

"well well well, look who it is boys. y/n y/l/n, blood traitor." malfoy spoke up, nudging his arms into both goyle and crabbe who sat on opposite sides of him.

"excuse me?" y/n growled, sass very evident in her voice, "how dare you?"

malfoy smirked, he thought this was funny. "i saw you talking to potter, how is he going to claim to be the chosen one and not even be a pureblood wizard!"

y/n scoffed, "well as it appears, your mother and father must've hated you for you to turn out so cold and heartless."

y/n's words hit draco hard, but he refused to let it show. instead his face held anger and rage, "i'll have you know, y/l/n, that only someone as dull and dumb as you could even think about befriending someone other than a pureblood, or even befriending a weasley."

y/n's eyes held nothing but hatred. as she went to open her mouth, a hand rested itself on her forearm. "he's not worth it." a voice spoke and y/n turned her head to look at a girl sitting next to her. "i'm pansy parkinson, fellow slytherin. i hope we can be friends."

y/n's eyes softened and a small smile rose to her face, "y/n y/l/n, and i would love that."

mcgonagall soon grabbed the girls attention as she lightly hit a spoon on her goblet. "your attention, please."

dumbledore stood up, "let the feast begin!" he declared. food soon appeared in front of all the children, causing y/n's mouth to drop open in shock. everyone grabbed food from left and right and began to eat.

at the end of the feast, the students were directed to their dormitories, the slytherin dorm being located down in the dungeons. y/n and pansy walked side by side, speaking and laughing with each other. malfoy and his friends walked in front of the two, draco turning his head every so often to glare at the girls.

the group finally reached the door to the dorms, a large painting of a snake on the front. the guide leading everyone spoke up and said, "pureblood," explaining that that was the password to enter the dorm. the door swung open and everyone walked inside.

the common room was magnificent, a large emerald green sofa in the middle facing a large fireplace, with two lounge chairs on either sides. huge windows were placed on the wall opposite of the wall with the main door, green drapes hung in front.

"girls dormitories are to your right, boys to your left. i will leave you all to settle in."

pansy quickly grabbed y/n's hand, dragging her up the big staircase towards the girls dorms. they quickly found that their belongings had already been placed in a room with only three beds, so they would only have to share a room with one other person. not soon after, a girl named marley stevens, another first year, came in and both y/n and pansy welcomed her warmly. marley's blonde hair fell to just below her shoulders and her hazel eyes showed specs of green, brown, and even a tad bit of orange if you were looking at them in the right way.

the girls unpacked quickly, not wanting to waste any time to get to know one another fully. y/n let willow out of her cage and like always, the owl sat on her shoulder. each girl sat on their own beds, yet facing the others. they talked for what felt like hours before sleep quickly came and overpowered their bright faces.

the next morning the sun could be seen poking through the curtains of the room, waking y/n up. it was just barely 6:30 and the two other girls were still sound asleep. y/n climbed out of her warm bed, leaving her in just her pajamas and quickly went to get dressed and freshen up. she left her hair to fall loosely down, deciding not to put it up.

walking back to her room the other two girls were awake, "i was wondering where you had gone. figured you went to go quarrel with malfoy some more." pansy giggled, causing y/n to roll her eyes and sigh.

"he's such a git, i haven't even been here two days and he already makes me want to pull my hair out." y/n said, sitting on her bed and gathering the books for her first class with mcgonagall.

"i bet you he's going to be hot though." marley added, earning a laugh from pansy and a disgusted look from y/n. she crinkled her nose and made a gagging sound,

"as if."

y/n's first few classes seemed to fly by, and she now sat at lunch with marley on her left and pansy on her right. marley had her head buried in a potions book she had gotten from the library. the night before she had explained that both her parents worked in a potion shop, and like y/n's mother, worked tirelessly everyday to create new ones. marley said that she absolutely adored potions and even wanted to open up her own shop one day.

pansy was staring off, daydreaming if you will, with her head resting in the palm of her right hand, not paying attention to anything going on around her.

y/n, however, was staring down at the goblet of water that was sat in front of her. she slowly raised her hand and used her pointer finger to make circular motions, watching as the water inside the cup began to circle in the same way. she was quickly pulled away from the water as a huge sound erupted from the gryffindor table, smoke appearing in front of a boy who's hair was now messed up. laughter could be heard from all around.

not soon after, a bunch of owls flew into the grand hall. "finally, the mail is here!" marley said, looking up.

a small red envelope with her name written beautifully in her mother's handwriting dropped in front of y/n. she quickly grabbed it before ripping it open,

"y/n,

your father and i have been informed that you have been placed in the slytherin house, and we couldn't be more proud of you. the ambition you show has always been prominent, so you ending up in slytherin is actually not a surprise. i'm not sure if you know, but your great grandfather was actually a slytherin, and he went on to do great things, me and your father know you will as well. we love you so much princess and can not wait for you to be home this holiday season. sending you lots of love, always.

- mum & dad."

y/n smiled, her heart warming at the words her mother had written. she looked at her friends, giving them both smiles and telling them she was going to go up to their room to send a letter back to her family. she stood up and made her way to the gryffindor table quickly to say hello to everyone and made her way out of the great hall to walk down towards the dungeons.
