"hello, mum!" y/n exclaimed as she walked into her mother's small shop. her mother had her eyes buried in a book as she stood behind the counter.

"ah, there you are, my love. enjoy your time with the weasleys?" y/m/n asked as she glanced up and smiled at her daughter.

y/n nodded her head, "very much so."

"come, follow me. gilderoy lockhart is down in the bookstore around the corner and i would love to get a book signed. sage, my dear, is there anyway you could watch the shop while i step away for a moment?"

the younger woman in the shop turned around from her dusting and smiled, "of course."

y/n followed her mother who led her around diagon alley and into an unfamiliar bookstore called 'flourish and blotts'. it was incredibly crowded but the young girl soon spotted ron and his family. not long after, hermione and harry walked in and y/n smiled at them, giving hermione a small friendly hug. pulling them from their conversation a voice spoke up, "ladies and gentlemen, mr. gilderoy lockhart!"

both y/m/n and molly smiled widely and gasped, "here he is."

a man dressed in blue stepped out and faced the crowd. he had blonde hair and wore a cocky grin. he smiled and pointed to the two woman y/n loved and they both beamed with excitement. y/n lightly rolled her eyes and shook her head, laughing slightly at them as they acted like fangirls. even hermione and ginny swooned over him.

"all of you wait outside while me and mrs. y/l/n get these books signed." molly said as she grabbed all of the books, shooing the children away. y/n and her friends stepped out of the crowd and into the front of the store before something caught her eye. it was the boy she had been hoping to receive a letter from, leaned again the railing on the stairs. he hadn't noticed her yet but soon saw harry.

"i'll bet you loved that, didn't you, potter?" he spat, referring to the picture harry had just taken with lockhart, "famous harry potter. can't even go into a bookshop without making the front page."

y/n took in all of his features; his hair that was still heavily gelled back, his blue eyes that were still as mesmerizing as they were the first time she looked into them. she noticed he had looked essentially the same, but was now taller and slimmer.

"leave him alone." ginny said as she stepped closer to him, her eyes narrowed.

he scoffed, "oh look, potter! you've got yourself a girlfriend!"

after those words left his mouth he finally looked behind harry and saw the girl he had been wanting to write to, but never knew what to say even after all of the letters she had sent him.

"y/n," he started but was soon cut off as his father placed his walking stick on his shoulder.

"now, now, draco, play nicely." mr. malfoy said as he pushed his son out of the way, "mr. potter. lucius malfoy. we meet at last." he held out his hand as harry hesitantly grabbed it. to the left draco stood, staring at y/n who looked at him quickly and then looked away. she didn't want him to see that she had been hurt due to him not reaching out all summer.

lucius continued to speak to harry, but y/n had completely zoned out, staring down at her shoes. she didn't dare to look up as she could still feel the hard gaze from draco burning into the side of her.

"y/n," y/m/n said from behind her, causing her to look up from her shoes, "let's go, darling."

y/n quickly followed her mother out of the store without another word to anyone.

just like last year, y/n followed her father down the train station, her mother at her side. the girl wasn't nearly at all nervous, but incredibly excited to see her friends and attend another school year at hogwarts. the three walked through the pillar and the hogwarts express came into view. she quickly hugged her parents and told them she loved them and jumped onto the train. this time, she walked down towards where the slytherins sat and saw pansy and marley sat at a table.

"y/n!" the two girls yelled to her, as y/n ran over to them, giving them both huge hugs.

"i've missed you both so much!" y/n exclaimed, sitting down across from the two.

"we've missed you, too!" marley said as she smiled widely.

the three girls quickly started into a conversation before marley looked up over y/n and smirked. the blonde girl nudged pansy as she looked up as well.

y/n turned to see what the girls were looking at before her heart sunk. draco was walking up towards them and he made eye contact with the girl. he slid into the seat next to her.

pansy and marley turned away, conversing amongst themselves so y/n and malfoy could talk. they both knew he hadn't written to her over the three months they were apart.

"y/n," he said as he looked at her. she didn't look up at him but instead focused on fidgeting with her fingers that sat on the table. "i'm sorry i didn't write to you this summer, i just never knew what to say."

"how about a simple hello!" she said as her eyes finally looked up and met his, glaring at him, "i was worried all summer wondering if something bad had happened to you!"

"i'm sorry." he said gently, resting one of his hands on top of hers, "i read all of your letters, i still have them even. i had began to write a few times but ended up throwing the parchment away."

y/n sighed, releasing her hard gaze into a much softer one, "it doesn't matter, at least you're here now."

he smiled at her and nodded before standing up and walking away to go find his other friends.

~

much like last year, y/n, marley, and pansy found themselves sat in the great hall as draco, goyle, crabbe and blaise sat opposite of them. they watched as the first years were sorted into their houses, clapping when one would be selected for slytherin. after, dumbledore gave more words before finally letting the students dig into the feast that had presented itself on the long tables.

after dinner, the three girls and the four boys ran towards the slytherin dorm and made their way up towards their familiar dorm rooms, seeing that once again all of their belongings had been brought up.

y/n and her friends unpacked but not before she let willow out of her cage, letting the owl fly around and stretch her wings. after they had finished the girls sat on their beds.

"so y/n, what's going on with you and malfoy." marley giggled as she wiggled her eyebrows.

y/n crinkled her nose before saying, "i haven't the slightest idea about what you're talking about."

"oh please, we saw the way he looked at you on the train. he never looks at anyone like that!" pansy said, getting in on the conversation.

y/n just shook her head, "guess he just realized i could ruin his life if he was an arse to me."

the girls laughed before beginning to gossip once more.
