y/n walked around in the garden located in the backyard of her family home. she soon came across a flower that looked severely dehydrated and concentrated as hard as she could. as she looked down towards her fingertips small droplets of water could be seen falling down towards the plant. she smiled lightly. her father and mother were doing all they could to help the girl control and learn about her abilities, and y/n seemed to be exceeding their expectations.

after only about a week of training, she was able to ignite small flames from her fingertips and control small bits of nature; for example, turning a beautiful green leaf to a color of more brown and orange.

y/n walked out of the garden and began to head back inside, hoping to receive a letter from draco. although she had written to him many times over the summer, he never sent one back. however, marley and pansy wrote to the girl almost every day, and y/n always sent them letters back. marley had helped her parents in the potions shop and pansy and her family had gone on a trip to a beautiful and tropical island.

y/n hadn't done a whole lot over the summer, she read books, helped her mother with spells, and spent quite a bit of time with the weasleys. ron, of course, always told y/n not to waste her breath on waiting for a letter from malfoy as she complained about it to him constantly. even though the ginger haired boy simply despised the blonde one, ron never once tried to get her to stop moping about it, as he knew he had no control over who the girl was friends with.

"he's probably just busy, i suppose." he told her, "best not to sit around and be upset about it."

"i guess you're right." she would say, even if his words didn't make her feel better.

the new school year came around quickly, and y/n was over the moon about seeing all of her friends once again, especially malfoy. like last year, the girl and her parents walked around diagon alley excitedly as she gathered the supplies she would be needing. after she had purchased everything she would need, y/n's parents dropped her off at the weasley house. she had begged them to let her go and spend time with them before they would be separated by the different houses they had been placed in the previous year.

"y/n, ron, c'mon now! we must be leaving!" fred whispered loudly as he opened the door to ron's room where the two sat as they played a game.

"mum and dad have finally gone up to bed!" george added, as his head also popped up from behind the door.

y/n looked at ron confused and asked, "where are we going?"

ron looked at her and smiled, "to save harry!"

the two jumped up and followed the twins as quietly as they could. they opened the front door and quickly ran out and headed towards the car.

after a ride that felt like forever, y/n finally heard ron say, "there! over there!"

y/n picked her head up and looked towards a house that looked just like every other one that sat on the street. the car drove up towards harry's bedroom window, shining it's bright lights inside, before coming to a stop.

"hiya, harry." ron said, smiling towards his friend.

"hi harry!" y/n said as her head poked out from the backseat where she sat next to fred.

harry looked at the four of them, completely surprised, "ron, fred, george, y/n. what are you all doing here?"

"rescuing you, of course!" ron exclaimed, "now, come on, get your trunk."

harry was quick to turn around and grab his things, as the four in the car waited patiently. ron reached out and placed a hook on harry's boarded up windows, telling him to stand back. "let's go!" he said as he turned to george who quickly stepped on the gas. the window fell down and george backed the car up, opening the back so harry could place his items inside. he shoved his trunk inside and closed the boot.

"come on, harry!" the twins said as ron opened his door to grab harry's owl. after grabbing the cage, ron quickly slipped in the back seat next to y/n and fred so harry could get in. however, his uncle soon busted in through the bedroom door and screamed, "petunia, he's escaping!"

the man grabbed harry's ankle, making y/n gasp and hold onto him tightly so he wouldn't fall out of the hovering car. "i've got you, harry!" she said.

"you and that bloody pigeon aren't going anywhere." his uncle spat out through gritted teeth.

"drive!" ron yelled. george stepped on the gas, causing the car to lurch forward. the man soon fell out of the open window and onto a shrub down below. y/n let out a breath she didn't even know she had been holding. the five of them drove away as fast as they could, harry looking back at his uncle as he shut the car door. the five of them laughed.

ron lightly hit harry on the shoulder, causing the brown haired boy to turn towards him. "by the way, harry, happy birthday."

after the sun had risen, the familiar weasley house came into view. george landed on the ground hard and drove down the dirt road that led to the house. they all hopped out of the car and made their way to the front door.

george led them inside, telling them to be quiet. everyone took off their jackets as harry walked around, examining everything in the house carefully.

y/n followed harry and sat on one of the many chairs, quickly standing up as mrs. weasley jumped out from around a corner.

"where have you been?" she yelled at her sons, before turning to y/n and smiling. "better be careful, y/n, these three could go getting you into trouble."

molly then turned to harry and opened her arms, "harry, how wonderful to see you, dear." she then continued to yell at the three boys who stood looking at their mother timidly, "of course i don't blame you two."

"they were starving him, mum! there were bars on his windows!" ron said, trying to defend himself and his brothers.

his mother then stuck a finger in his face, "well, you best hope i don't put bars on your window, ronald weasley!"

ron turned to look at y/n, his eyes wide with fear. y/n giggled lightly and shrugged as if to tell him that he had better listen to his mum.

"come on, dears, time for a spot of breakfast."

after breakfast, y/n, harry, and the weasleys gathered around a large fireplace to head to diagon alley. the others would be going for supplies, but as y/n already had hers, she would be going to meet her mum in her shop.

"right," molly started, grabbing a small pot full of floo powder, "here we are, harry. you go first, dear."

"but harry's never traveled by floo powder before, mum." ron replied.

"oh right, you go first, ron, so that harry can see how it's done. yes."

ron nodded and y/n watched him as he took a handful of floo powder, called out "diagon alley", and threw the powder down to his feet. he disappeared as green flames surrounded him.

"it's easy harry, just be sure to speak loud and clear." y/n clarified to her friend. she had traveled by floo powder many times before, her parents used it.

harry hesitantly walked up and stood where ron had just stood. he grabbed a handful and quickly said "diagonally", disappearing.

y/n's eyes went wide as she looked towards mr. weasley.

"what did he say, dear?" molly asked.

mr. weasley put his hands on his hips and said, "diagonally."
