i know the scene where mcgonagall gives dancing lessons is only gryffindor house, but it's one of my favorite scenes so i added it<3

y/n sat at breakfast alone, playing with the spoon that rested in her bowl of cereal. marley had stayed in their dorm to work on some unfinished homework and she hadn't seen the boys or draco all morning.

ron and the others that were sat at the gryffindor table had noticed and wondered why draco wasn't sitting next to her.

"what do you reckon is going on?" ron asked quietly to both hermione and harry. hermione shook her head.

"i don't know. maybe we should ask?" she said as she looked at the girl who was clearly not in the best mood.

"i don't know, hermione. i don't think she wants anything to do with any of us."

"she used to be your best friend, ron! don't you want to make sure she's alright?"

ron nodded his head, "of course. i just feel bad, i haven't spoken to her in so long."

"well, nows your chance. go, go." hermione said.

ron stood up slowly and walked over to the girl and sat down in front of her. y/n looked up and her eyes widened, "ron?"

"hi, y/n." he said quietly, "are you alright?"

y/n didn't even mind that he was talking to her after so many months of nothing. she truly had missed him and now with things falling apart, she was happy he was reaching out.

she nodded her head, "yeah, i'm okay. just some drama."

"do you wanna talk about it?" he asked her as he gave a small smile.

she shook her head and pushed her bowl away from her, "it's nothing, really. me and draco just got into a small fight, but we'll be okay. i actually have been meaning to reach out to you and the others, but i just never got around to doing so."

"us as well. you were my best friend, y/n. i shouldn't have ignored you and made you feel like anything less than my partner in crime."

y/n laughed lightly at his words, "i miss you."

"i miss you, too."

y/n walked out of the great hall and had made it her top priority to go and find draco. she wanted to apologize and forgive him. even though she was still upset he never told her about pansy, she understood why he had kept it to himself. he was merely trying to protect their friendship.

he wasn't in the dorm and he wasn't out in the courtyard. she had even seen crabbe and goyle and they told her they genuinely didn't know where he was. she sighed and began to make her way to the last place she could think of, the astronomy tower.

she climbed the large amount of stairs until she was at the top and she was happy with what she saw. there he was, letting his feet hang from the edge. she sat down next to him and he looked up and smiled, not expecting her to come looking for him.

"hi." he said as he watched her.

"i'm sorry." she said as she looked at him sadly. he shook his head and sighed.

"you shouldn't be. you didn't do anything. i should have told you about pansy and i look like a bad boyfriend because i didn't."

"i understand why you didn't tell me," she grabbed his cold hand and interlaced it with her warm one, "you just didn't want to ruin our friendship. i wish you would have told me sooner, but i'm not mad, i promise."

he placed a small kiss to her forehead before placing one to her lips, "class is starting soon. we should probably go back inside."

they both stood up and walked into the castle side by side.

"the yule ball has been a tradition of the triwizard tournament since its inception." mcgonagall said, "on christmas eve night, we and our guests gather in the great hall for a night of well mannered frivolity."

the girls sat on one side of the room and the boys sat on the other. draco was sat directly in front of y/n and sent a wink her way after hearing about the ball. she was more than excited to hear that she would be able to dress up in fancy clothes and wash all of her worries away for a night with the platinum haired boy by her side.

"as representatives of the host school i expect each and every one of you to put your best foot forward. and i mean literally, because the yule ball is, first and foremost, a dance."

the girls giggled amongst each other quietly while most of the boys scoffed and rolled their eyes.

"this is amazing!" marley spoke up excitedly, "i can not wait to ask aliyah to the ball."

y/n grinned at her friend and then looked farther down the row of girls to where aliyah sat with her friends. she noticed y/n and marley looking at her and blushed slightly.

"silence! the house of godric gryffindor has commanded the respect of the wizard world for nearly 10 centuries. i will not have you, in the course of a single evening besmirching that name by behaving like a babbling, bumbling band of baboons."

y/n laughed at the words professor mcgonagall said.

"inside every girl, a secret swan slumbers, longing to burst forth and take flight." these words made all of the boys once again roll their eyes, even y/n rolled her eyes slightly.

"inside every boy, a lordly lion prepared to prance. mr. weasley."

ron looked up at her, "yes?"

"will you join me, please?" ron looked at her, a small look of disgust and embarrassment on his face. he stood up timidly as the boys hollered loudly, embarrassing the red haired boy even more.

the pair walked to the middle of the room and mcgonagall instructed ron to place his right hand on her waist. music began to play and y/n and marley couldn't stop laughing at the sight. she wished she could take a picture.

"everybody come together. boys, on your feet!"

all of the girls stood up while the boys remained seated, however draco approached y/n quickly and took her hand, "m'lady."

she giggled and placed her hand on his shoulder with his lying on her waist. everyone was soon dancing quite awkwardly to the music, but y/n and draco were having a blast. he bowed her down and spun her around, them both laughing so hard they began to tear up.

"my sire, you are a fabulous dancer." y/n said, imitating a voice of someone much older than her.

"and you, my darling, are even better."
