"y/n! did you hear what happened?" marley said as she burst into their dorm room.

y/n looked at her and shook her head, "what do you mean?"

"umbridge! she's now the high inquisitor!"

"what are you talking about?" y/n asked as she continued to gather her books for her next class.

"i don't know what happened. she's trying to change everything about the school." marley said as she followed y/n out of the room. they walked out of the common room and towards trelawneys class.

"this can't be happening." y/n spat as she quickened her step. they approached the classroom and y/n sat in her usual spot next to draco who was already seated.

"did you hear?" draco whispered and the girl just nodded her head.

"this is complete rubbish. what happened to dumbledore?"

just after she said those words umbridge walked in, a clipboard in hand. she approached trelawney who looked incredibly surprised to see her, "professor trelawney. you've been in this post how long, exactly?"

y/n just rolled her eyes, "i may just have to drop out of school all together."

"no." draco said, "it's going to be okay."

"it is not! look at what she's doing! she's going to run hogwarts into the ground."

"maybe what she's doing is for the best." draco muttered.

she shot him a confused glance, "you can't be serious."

"i don't know, y/n. let's just see what she does and figure it out from there."

y/n just scoffed at him and turned her body back towards the front so she could listen to the lesson. she didn't like trelawneys class, but after what draco said, she didn't feel like directing her attention to him.

days went by and umbridge had set many new rules that were absolutely insane. students weren't allowed to play any sorts of music during study hours and proper dressing was always required. umbridge smirked at y/n every time she walked past and all y/n wanted to do was curse the disgusting woman.

y/n's attention was turned towards many students swiftly walking towards the main door and she was quick to follow them. she found harry and walked with him, "harry, what's going on?"

"it's professor trelawney." he said, a worried tone very present in his voice.

y/n walked with the rest of students until they were outside. she gasped as she saw trelawney standing with her many trunks. she didn't like the class she taught, but thought she was an incredible teacher. she found marley in the crowd of students and walked towards her, quickly gripping her arm. marley just looked at her anxiously.

umbridge parted through the people, walking straight up to the obviously scared woman.

"sixteen years i've lived and taught here. hogwarts is my home. you can't do this."

y/n grew incredibly sad and angry at the same time. she couldn't believe umbridge was just tossing teachers to the side. it was ridiculous.

"actually, i can." the woman in pink said with a smile as she held up a piece of parchment.

mcgonagall stepped into the empty circle, quickly taking sybill into a hug. the doors opened and dumbledore stepped out. everyone turned to watched him hopefully. he told trelawney to go back inside and she thanked him as she trembled.

"dumbledore, may i remind you that under the terms of educational decree number 23, as enacted by the minister," umbridge started.

dumbledore quickly cut her off, "you have the right to dismiss my teachers. you do not, however, have the authority to banish them from the grounds. that power remains with the headmaster."

y/n couldn't watch anymore. she turned and headed back inside as fast as she could. she was simply disgusted and sick. she walked to the slytherin dorm and went inside, plopping down onto the sofa.

other students began to pile into the dorm and y/n didn't move. she was too caught up in thinking about what the school was quickly coming to.

"are you alright?" marley asked as she noticed her friend. she sat down next to her and moved her blonde hair away from her eyes.

"no. the whole reason we came to school was to learn how to use magic. and now it seems like we can't even do that. umbridge is kicking out professors left and right and i don't even know what i'm supposed to be learning to pass my owls. everything is just clashing down into one big mess and i don't know what to do." y/n huffed out, "and, draco seems to be enjoying what umbridge is doing."

marley looked at her sympathetically, "i know. it sucks. school was supposed to be a place where we were able to have fun, not act like a prison."

"god. it's just so annoying. everything was perfectly fine until that bitch showed up." y/n rolled her eyes.

draco and his friends walked into the common room and noticed the girls that were still on the sofa. draco went to give y/n a kiss but she turned away. "um, did i do something?"

y/n just laughed as she crossed her arms, "no, draco. you didn't."

he furrowed his eyebrows, "then why won't you kiss me? or even look at me?"

y/n closed her eyes as she took a deep breath, "you saw umbridges new rule. male and female students aren't permitted to be within 8 inches of each other."

draco scoffed, "she's not here."

"really? so you're telling me that after you would kiss me you wouldn't go tell her and kiss her arse?"

draco was taken back by her words, "why are you being like this?"

she stood up and stood in front of him, "don't act like you aren't loving what she's doing to the school, draco! this is a complete disaster and you seem to be enjoying it."

"you think i like not being able to hold your hand in classes or when we're walking through the corridors?"

"that's just one bloody rule! look at the hundreds of others she has made! you act like you couldn't give two shits and that's the difference between me and you." she spat at him angrily. she could tell he was beginning to grow angry as well.

"well if that's what you think, then i guess i'll just leave you alone."

he turned and walked out of the common room. y/n was so irritated that at this point she didn't even care. she sat back down next to a stunned marley and took another deep breath, "i'm so done with this place."
