My feet carried me into the main house. I pulled open the black slider door, the feeling of the warm summer air leaving my back. A blast of air conditioned air hit my face, and I sucked in a deep breath. For some reason, that gave me a really bad feeling about this conversation.

The slider was located behind our kitchen table. I moved past the chairs, looking over the opening into the living room where the television was on Sports Center. My dad's feet were on the coffee table, a habit that he complains I have. I tried to stay silent while searching for a drink on the table. I had a feeling I might want to butter him up.

"Hi Stella," I swore at myself internally, jumping at his voice, face scrunching up. Damn it.

He was looking at me from his position on the couch, eyes warm. I swallowed the spit in my mouth, throat closing as he smiled at me. I gave him a delayed, weary smile. I scratched my forehead, trying to distract myself while muttering a small hi.

"I -- uh, I'm gonna get a drink. Want something?" I jutted my thumb towards the kitchen behind me. He thought about it for a moment and shrugged while nodding.

"Ice tea, please." he asked, and I nearly took off towards the kitchen, just to get out of the room. I didn't know how to ask my dad if I could go away with Alex. Hell, as far as he's concerned, Adam was a better choice.

I pulled open the fridge door, glancing to the containers around me. I scowled when I saw that there wasn't any iced tea made. All we had was lemonade, and my dad would only drink that if he was desperate. I sighed, walking over to the cabinet and pulling out the mix for the iced tea. I wasn't taking any chances with this one.

I moved to the cabinet next to the fridge and pulled out a large pitcher. I placed it on the counter next to the sink. I tuged the hose on the faucet, putting it over the container and turned on the cold water. I watched as it filled slowly. I bit the inside of my cheek, trying to think of what to say to my dad.

Oh, by the way I'm going to run off with my boyfriend for two months, see you when school starts. Bye!

I rolled my eyes at the thought, shaking my head and turning off the water. I slid the hose back into the sink and lifted the lid for the tea. I pulled the scoop out of the powder and began to count how many I put in. I was trying to stall, honestly. Because I really didn't want him to say no. I didn't have time to push it off; I didn't have time to think of what i was going to say.

I rubbed my sweaty palms on the fabric of my running shorts and pulled the drawer next to the sink. I rummaged through, looking for a wooden spoon. Once I found it, I stirred the powder and water together. I watched it turn to that rich brown color, realizing it almost matched the tone of Alex's eyes.

I shook my head, pulling out two cups and setting them on the counter. I poured the liquid in the cups and placed the pitcher in the fridge. I grabbed the cups, trying to rid my hands of the shaking as I walked back to the living room. I set them both on the table, sitting down next to my dad. I pulled my cup to my lips, eyes wandering from my dad's face to the TV.

"You didn't have to make new tea," he chuckled. I shrugged, he must have heard me making it. I was trying so hard to be casual, that I actually felt like an diot. He was eyeing me with big gray eyes, thick eyebrows pulled together in a confused look.

I leaned back uncomfortably into the leather couch, trying to act like this was the only reason I was here, to watch the sports channel with him like I did. My cup was still at my lips awkwardly, eyes on the reporters but not really listening to what they were saying. I just stared at the colors and pictures changed.
