My heart was flipping inside my chest, and I didn't know if I would ever be able to speak again. I gripped the pass that Kara had given me this morning. The lanyard around my neck was rubbing against my skin.
Kara sighed as we pulled up to the spot where it was going to be held. She had her car for now, because after the show today, the boys had a few days off. So, they all decided that they were going to spend it here, and hang out at home. I was happy to hear that, but at the same time terrified. What the hell was going to happen between Alex and me?
"Damn security," Kara parked her car in a close spot. The gates for the show didn't open until eleven, and it was only eight-thirty now. We did see one or two groups of fans that were so excited; they were here three hours early -- talk about being dedicated.
I followed slyly behind Kara, and shesmiled at the guards while showing them her pass. The man took it in his fingers, flipped it over twice, and then nodded. I moved behind her, and he did the same. He wished us a nice day, and allowed us inside. It wasn't like any other concert you have seen before; it was completely different. There were around seven or eight large stages that were placed on the grass. It was like they placed a huge rock concert in the middle of a field. It was strange to see all the workers trying to assemble everything. I couldn't imagine this rush every single day, trying to be steady for eleven. It must have been exhausting.
At the entrance, workers were setting up the stands for maps and schedules. You could see that a lot of merch tnts were being set up as well. There were lines of them, and it gave me a small idea of how many bands were performing here.
Kara let out a deep breath, and sucked another back in, "Better take in all the fresh air while you can. It'll start to smell like weed in a few hours," Her face was sour at the thought and my nose scrunched up. She started walking to the left, phone in her hands. She must have been texting Rian orsomething. After chatting and weaving through the workers, we were in front of a tent behind the stages. It was white, and the tables lined up for what looked like miles. People were swarming a large buffet table at the end and Kara smiled. She seemed like she was at home here, and I was jealous. I was jealous that I was the odd man out, and I didn't know what I was doing.
She glanced over the tables, which were slowly being filled with hungry band memeers. I felt slightly star struck as we walked past faces I knew, and when I saw The Spill Canvas, it took a lot for me not to do a triple take. These were the bands I loved, sitting before me.
The white tables had salt and pepper shakes, napkins and condiments thrown about. The eaters were digging into their food, and chatting. I felt so strange as I walked past, like a girl who won the chance to be bac here, over a girl who knew people on this tour.
Kara walked down the middle aisle, eyes focused on a table near the buffet. I hated how short I was, because I couldn't see where she was going. I was short, but not deaf. I heard Jack's voice boom through the catering tent, screaming my name.
"STELLA!!!" he cried, running full speed at me from fifteen feet away. I braced myself, cringing away at the force e could have hit me with. Instead, his arms wrapped around my waist, and he pulled his stomach to mine. As he whirled me around in a curcle, he explained how much he'd missed me. I felt my entire body turn hot as all the tables turned and stared cautiously. I'm sure they'd all met Jack. If they didn't know him before, well, they do now.
I couldn't stop the smile on my face, and how close I hugged him when I finally reacted to his obnoxious behavior. I closed my eyes as he put me down, but still held onto him. I loved his lanky body, and his tall frame. I missed seeing his skunk hair and crooked smile. I missed my best friend.
