"God,Dad, come on, just zup me up," I laughed while backing towards my dad. I was holding the front of my dress to my chest, like I was grabbing myself. It was an unflattering look, and my dad was surely uncomfortable seeing my back and bra strap exposed. I knew he chose to pretend like I didn't actually buy feminine products, like I wasn't grown up enough for them yet.

He reached for the zipper, pulling on it carefully. I shifted the front, making sure the white tulle was even with my chest. I pulled at the end of my black cocktail dress that was more or less a prom dress. The white tulle was layered on the bottom, which left me with a small ball gown that ended above my knees. There was a sash around the middle that met at the left side of my chest. There was a large cluster of gems that covered the width of the sash. I loved thed ress, it made me feel...pretty, honestly. I loved the way it hugged me, and showed off the curves that barely existed. I wasn't stumbling in the three-inch heels I had on, which was a first. They were clustered with the same rhinestones as my dress, and matched my earrings perfectly.

My hair was twisted into curls, which reminded me of Taylor Swift's crazy hair. I managed to do it myself, not bothering wasting someone's time. I kept my bangs wavy, the longest pieces twisting into curls at the bottom. I took the curls and pulled it into a messy bun on the side of my shoulder, considering the length, finishing the look off with a little brown make up. It took me less than an hour to get ready, and I was happy for that.

I was excited, which was new for me. I didn't go to my junior prom at my last high school. In Maryland, this was the senior prom, where it was all about the upperclassmen, and I got to go with Alex, something I would have laughed about three months ago.

"Stell, are you sure you don't want something to cover your shoulders?" my dad's voice strained. I laughed at him as he eyed my collarbones, not liking my lack of dress. It was strapless; there was nothing to make it better.

"I don't have anything to do that with, dad," I laughed at him, putting small clustered diamond necklace around my neck. I turned to him and he looked slightly awed. I smiled slightly, neck pointing down to put on the necklace, but I couldn't get the clasp. Without a word, my dad stepped forward, hand waiting for the necklace. I gave it to him, and he stood behind me, putting the necklace around my neck, clasping it with ease. He smiled as I turned around, pulling my hair from underneath it.

"You look beautiful," he kissed my forehead lightly, still dressed in his uniform from work. He got out early to come take pictures for me. I was grateful, I was more grateful for my dad that you'd ever know.

I missed him these last few months. I was just -- so caught up in my new friends. I was trying to squeeze in the only high school experience I'd ever really had into two months. I placed my hand over his, eyes closed and smiling under his hand.

"Thanks," I mumbled quietly, cheeks blushing.

This was probably the first time I'de ver dressed up like this before and actually put effort into the outcome. I wanted to look nice, not just for the sake of it, but I just -- I wanted to take Alex's breath away. I wanted him to see me differently than he already has. I wanted him to see me look pretty. He's seen my at my worst, and he should see me at my best. That's the best way to keep him hanging, right?

"Well, we need to go, Kara said we should be there at four," my dad glanced at his watch before pulling away. He didn't have time to change, but it didn't matter. I knew how much he likd to show off his uniform, even if he'd never admit it himself.

Before we moved, there was a knock on the door. I sighed, walking to it and opening it. I let it open, glancing towards the kitchen to see if my dad was getting his keys. I glanced forward and saw Alex standing there, eyes wide while looking at me. I felt my cheeks flush, well...that's not the way I wanted him to see me.
