I was sitting in my room later that week, bored to my wits end. I didn't know what to do. My dad was out with his buddies getting a few drinks, and Lauren had to be home for a family dinner of some sorts, so I was left to wilt away in my room. I really needed to find more friends.
I was playing my guitar, looking up different chords to songs I knew. I pretty much had gotten all of The Spill Canvas's songs down. At least their 2002 album and I wasn't sure if I should be impressed with that achievement, or feel pathetic.
My computer was open, and I was logged into Skype. I always did that when I was near my computer, just in case Kara or the boys were on. It was eight at night. I was certain they were on the bus at this point, but they lost their wireless internet connection regularly.
I had to say my favorite song was So Much by The Spill Canvas. I always had this time for it, and the words. I liked the melody, and how it sounded like a lullaby. They always seemed to have that sort of feel to them, and it made me want to sleep. Lately, I liked it because it made me miss Alex.
I played the chords to myself, not minding the sound. I hummed to the song, watching my fingers against the strings. The guitar rested on my lap comfortably. I loved this thing; it was my new piano. I wasn't sure which one I loved more.
My computer gave me a log in signal and I jumped at the noise. My fingers reached forward, flying through the internet tabs I had open and found Skype. I clicked on it eagerly, seeing Jack's icon pop up in the corner. He must have gotten his computer tow ork. I double clicked his name, asking for a request.
It took a few minutes before I saw his face on the screen. He had his normal goofy grin on, and skunk hair hidden under a red baseball cap. I smiled, heart warming up. I missed my best friends. I missed Jack waking me up on weekends, telling me we had places to go even when we didn't need to be anywhere at all. I missed listening to him talk about nothing and make jokes about everything. It's the little things you learn to miss the most.
"Frisky," Jack nodded towards me, a serious expression on his face, like we were in some sort of formal meeting. I rolled my eyes, running my fingers through my hair.
"Kitty," I raised my eyebrows teasingly. He told me how he hated his ex-girlfriend for thinking it was cute to take his last name and mess with it so it was a pet name. The pronunciation was "Bara-cat", and that didn't help one bit. The "cat" turned into "kitty" and now, that was his nickname. It was only used recently when he let that fact slip and I used it to my full advantage.
His eyes became hard and I laughed. I loved to watch Jack get frustrated. "I'm sorry, what's up?"
"Well, Harry Son, I don't think I want to talk to you anymore."
"Did you really just take my last name and try to make a joke out of it?"
"I did, and it's way better than that stupid name you keep calling me," He smiled again. I sighed, shaking my head with my guitar on my lap still. I played with the tuner keys, and Jack watched me through the screen while talking aimlessly about how smashed he was last night. I laughed when he told me he fell on stage today in another show.
"I know kids were recording us. Just look up All Time Low June 12th Houston, Texas. There has to be a video of me eating shit," that was something I loved about Jack. He never really cared when he messed up because it was all one big game. Some days he wins, some days he loses. He always laughs at himself though.
"Okay, one second," I pushed his video chat to the side while opening yet another tab. I went to Google and typed in exactly what he said. It was amazing to see how many kids had posted videos about something that had happened only hours before. There had to be a hundred videos that were of the boys from different angles.
