🔒 My Muse || Chapter Seventy Six

A sudden gush of wind blew my hair away, giving me a clear shot. "Yeah, I remember you, asshole." I clicked the trigger. "Don't forget me."

His hand teleported in front of his face, catching the bullet. No. More like the bullet just bounced off. It didn't leave a dent. The creature smiled, retracting the bottom half of it's mask so we could all see his waves of razor sharp teeth. "You're brave, y/n... It must have taken guts to even get out here." It's voice was classy, speaking like some demon royalty or whatnot. "You're strong... But stupid." In a blink, the creature lunged at our small group. It felt like the wind. "Stupid, slow." It taunted, running circles around us. Zack grit his teeth, unable to keep up. Everyone was whipping around in different directions, the unified squadron becoming a mess. "Shit !" I cursed under my breath. We needed a plan. This hunt was the last one we needed to survive. Sonya and Pepe are fixing the mechanisms as we speak. "Gillian," I turned to her. "Nigel said you were fast, right?" She grinned. "Damn fucking fast." She knew what I was planning. She ran off into the forest, Leuvis immediately noticing. "I'll entertain your games, y/n. But I intend to slaughter you myself." Chills were sent down my spine, but I quickly shrugged it off. I won't let myself freeze or fall anymore. Gillian and Leuvis disappeared. 

I clicked on my headpiece, calling the snipers. "Nigel, Sandy, Violet. Gillian is distracting Leuvis. I need you three to position around the town." A staticky voice replied. It was Nigel. "What? We're going to fight him?" I scoffed. "No. We're going to survive him."

Whatever it takes. 

"Emma, Sonya, Pepe, Evacuate everyone into the basement. This might get messy." Emma grabbed my hand, Sonya and Pepe giving me an okay through the headset. She ran off, calling anyone in the streets to follow her. 

"Hey, Zack." I whispered. He stepped towards me, taking my hand. "Whatever happens to me, ignore it. Your goal is to save people. To save everyone." He scowled, growling his words. "You know I wouldn't just stand there and let you get hurt." I smiled as genuinely as I could. His hand was trembling. "Please, Zack. Promise me." 

"Two demons. Two o'clock from the town." Violet's strained whisper said through our earpieces. "It's... those two. Sandy is with me. Can we get backup?" I clenched my teeth. We had to take care of the others before dealing with Leuvis. I just hope Gillian can hold out that long. 

"Paula, you go help Violet and Sandy. There's two others, right?" 

"Bayon, a horned white one." Oliver said. "The other is Luce, who's new to the hunting ground. He'd be the easiest to kill." 

"Never underestimate those monsters." I replied, sliding my gun over my shoulder. Emma was rushing back to the group, Sonya and Pepe taking over the evacuation. "I'll leave Luce to Oliver and Zack." I said, turning to them. They all nodded in agreement. Zack was the only one protesting. "What if you get hurt? I won't be there, y/n-" I shushed him, jumping into his arms. "I'll be okay. You have to protect everyone. A hundred lives are more important than mine. Promise?" I stuck my pinky out, booping his nose. He smiled sadly, giving me his last finger back. "Pinky promise." 

I clicked the headset, calling Nigel. "We're taking on Bayon, where are you?" No response. "Nigel?" I repeated, everyone glancing at me in fear. Where was he? Finally, a strained whisper responded. "Funny you say that actually... Five o'clock. He's right here." I cursed again, glaring at Emma. She nodded as we broke into a run towards Nigel's direction. We're not losing anyone. Not today.
