Video editing is magical, rewarding yet stressful and time consuming. Finding the right clips and then the right song, perfecting the timing to craft the perfect Instagram loop-when Jimin feels like cross posting-which is rare. He mainly posts to his YouTube channel called Jeonsthetic. The channel started out small with only a few hundred subscribers, but in recent years that number has quadrupled to a whopping 500,000. Sometimes Jimin still can't believe his online fame and other times he thinks his seven years of stanning one group has paid off.
BTS. Bangtan Sonyeondan. The Bulletproof Boyscouts.
Jimin has followed them since day one when they first debuted with a hip-hop concept. It was then, as Jimin ditched class to watch the music video, that he realized who his bias was and still is.
Jeon Jungkook-the Golden Maknae, the international playboy and his fucking thunder thighs (Jimin's words). Jimin isn't sure what it was that pulled him to Jungkook, sometimes he thinks it was his baby face or maybe his infamous phrase: "The name is Jungkook, my scale is nationwide." Even after seven years of following the boy group, Jimin remains puzzled as to why his bias is Jungkook and not RM who has an amazing, dimpled smile by the way.
Inevitably so, Jimin's first edit was of Jungkook. It was innocent and rough-the transitions sucked and each time Jimin looks back at it he cringes. The music didn't fit, his vignette was entirely too dark and the clips he used of Jungkook didn't suit the vibe of the edit. With this all said, Jimin's first edits were shit. However, he remains eternally grateful to the ten people who liked those horrific uploads. Two years down the road when BTS returned with RUN and I Need U, Jimin scrapped up enough money to pay for Sony Vegas Pro. He spent nights studying and toying with the software before mastering it.
His first edit with the new software was a simple edit of Jungkook in Baepsae. Jimin slowed the clip and sped it up, focusing on the way Jungkook's hips moved during the chorus. The white shirt, tousled hair and ripped jeans were fatal to Jimin's heart. 2015 and 2016 were good years-his subscriber count increased, he was making good grades in college and he had an awesome part-time job. Fast-forward another few years and Jimin currently works at a dance studio full time while studying for his bachelors.
Of course, he continues to make edits of Jungkook, and he recently announced that he'll host a reveal live as thanks for hitting 500,000 subscribers. Which is what he's currently primping for.
"You've been staring at your reflection for thirty minutes already." Taehyung, his roommate of five years, says from down the hall.
Jimin rolls his eyes. "Thousands of people are going to see my face in a few minutes."
"You're beautiful as you are." Taehyung mutters almost robotically.
"Wow, you sound soooo genuine." Jimin snaps back sarcastically.
Taehyung's laughter echoes down the hall.
Jimin continues where he left off, struggling with a single strand of hair which doesn't want to stay down. Groaning in frustration, he opts to wear a gray beanie over his head, leaving his bangs on display. Jimin angles his face and presses his lips together to spread the Chapstick he applied moments ago.
"Great."
He adjusts his camera (he purchased it three days ago after saving his paychecks for a couple weeks) and focuses the lens. He smiles once he sees himself on the computer screen. "Not bad." He murmurs. After a few more minutes of adjusting, Jimin's finally ready to become something more than just a name.
Fuck, I'm so anxious, he thinks as he rubs his palms against his jeans. After taking several deep breaths, Jimin finally presses the GO LIVE button. A countdown begins.
