"I am a perfectly stable hunter" I said as I released an arrow which hit its target. "I'm not saying you're unstable" Alaric corrected as he removed the arrow from the target and ran a finger through it.

"Sounded like what you were implying" I crossed to my duffel bag and put the rest of my weapons away, ending training early.

"All I said is that you've been training nonstop this past month. You should be enjoying the rest of your summer"

"Maybe I just don't want you passed out on the bar" I countered as I picked up my duffel bag and started walking down the trail to the car with him on my tail.

"That is just wrong" he mutters as he catches up to me, slipping the arrow into my quiver.

"Well that's just me being a good friend"

"Hm, right. I still think you should enjoy the rest of your summer"

I pulled out an arrow and poked him in the shoulder with it. "I will...eventually"

"I just don't know why you want to bring chili to a potluck. Everybody brings chili." I hear Damon when Ric and I get home.

"Hey" Elena says in greeting when Alaric and I entered the kitchen and I dropped my stuff next to the island.

"What's up?" Alaric says as he looks over what they're cooking.
Elena looks up at him. "What time do you want to go to the Lockwood party?"

Alaric grimaces. "Ah. Those founders parties aren't really my thing."

"I'm down" I say as I picked up a cracker and dipped it in the chilly

"Show up, there's going to be nine other people that brought chili" Damon continues.
Elena gives him a glare, "It's an old family recipe, okay?"

"Yeah! I know. I knew your old family. They made sucky chili."

He looks at her and smiles which makes her laugh, more like giggle. A girly giggle, like 'I have a crush on you' giggle.

"Why are you here, exactly?" Alaric questions as he glanced between the two of them.

"She knows."

Elena sighs. "He thinks I'm going to break. I'm not going to break. I am just going to keep making chili, pretend like I didn't just spend the entire summer looking for someone who didn't want to be found."

Damon whispers. "She's in denial."

"I'm not in denial." She grumbles in a harsh whisper.

Damon scoffs. "No?"

I stare between the two as Damon touched her necklace

"You're still wearing this necklace. Isn't this the reminder of your unbreakable bond with Stefan?"

Alaric watches them and I whisper to him. "They've been like this since we got back from Chicago"

..................

"How was training?" Elena asked as she kept on making the chilly. I glanced up at her from my arrows, I've been whittling since Ric and Damon left.

Damon to compel Caroline's dad out of town—he showed up and basically kidnapped her to try and 'fix her'—and Ric went home to get ready for the Lockwood party.

"Good. Ric thinks I should take a break"

"But you don't want to"

"Nope" I lifted the stake and blew on it, blowing off the excess.

I turned my head when there was a knock on the door and put down the stake.
I opened the door and smiled when I saw Caroline holding a bowl of food in her hands.

"Caroline!"

"I come bearing gifts!" She says with a smile.

Elena looks down at the bowl in her hands when she comes up besides me "Please say that's not chili..."

She steps aside to reveal Bonnie.

"Bonnie!" Elena and I exclaim.

"I'm back!" Bonnie exclaims as we embrace her.

Bonnie looks at us. "I leave town for the summer and everything goes to hell for all of you"
Caroline, me and Elena exchanged glances as Jeremy came down the stairs.

"Bonnie!"

"Jeremy!"

Jeremy hurried down the remaining steps and Bonnie jumped, wrapping her legs around him as they embraced and the girls and I smiled at the scene before heading into the kitchen to give them some space to talk.

She joined us soon after and we started talking about her summer

"The problem with my dad's normal side of the family is normal made for a really boring summer." Bonnie explains with a dull tone to signify how boring it was.

"After the last few days, I would kill for a normal family." Caroline comments as she helps Elena put the Chili in a casserole.

"Since when did you learn how to cook?" Bonnie asks as she dips a finger in the guacamole I made in the morning before training and I slap her hand away.

"Damon helped a little." Elena says as I push the plate away from Bonnie. "Damon's helping you cook now?" Caroline questioned with skepticism.

Elena smiles. "Both of you stop judging. He's just trying to be a good...ow!"

Caroline raises an eyebrow. "Ahh! Did I splash you?"

Elena shakes her head. "No, no, my necklace."

She pulls the pendant off her skin which has a burn mark which was weird.
"It burned me." Elena says in confusion.

She removes the necklace and holds it by the chain.

Caroline shrugs. "Maybe it's a sign you shouldn't be wearing it."

I tilt my head at her. "Caroline..."

Caroline raises her hands in defense, "What, I'm just saying. If you're going to be "cooking" without Stefan."

I raised an eyebrow at her "Really?"

"Let me see it." Bonnie says to Elena, holding out her hand.

Elena holds it out and as soon as Bonnie touches it there's a zap and sparks fly out of it and Elena drops it in shock as we all exchange glances.
