"Morning sunshine's." Damon greets. I tilt my head at him. I don't know why but he seemed chipper. That's not normal.

Elena and I came to visit Alaric after what happened yesterday with treats. I was fully healed thanks to Stefan and so was Meredith. But what happened last night made me realize how fast Alaric can change from his normal self to his alter-ego self.

I wanted to make sure Damon was doing what he was told to and to check up on him. He had apologized this morning when he woke up and since he sounded fine over the phone we came over.

"Morning. How's Alaric?"

We both moved to get in the loft but Damon blocked us by closing the door slightly to block our entry and our sights. "Indecent, but fine."

Elena nods. "So then, does that mean there were no issues last night?"

Damon shakes his head. "Nope. Slept like a baby, woke up Alaric. No head minds about dead Council members."

Elena frowns and crosses her arms. "Then why do I feel like you're hiding something from me?"

"Well, maybe because you're being all paranoid and control freaky." He defended. "What'd you bring me?"

Damon takes the bag from me and sniffs it. "Ooh, chocolate muffins. You know what they say; a way to a psycho killer's heart is through his stomach." I snatched the bag from him and scrunch my face up at his remark. "They're not for you."

Damon frowns. "Fine. But sadly, Ric's gonna have to miss Elena and Ariel time today. You know, lockdown and all." I sigh and shove him the bag. "Fine. Take it, give it to him and only him and tell him that we miss him, okay?"

"With pleasure."

Elena nods. "Please." Damon starts to shut the door on us. "Have a great day, thanks for coming by."

"Dam..." Elena starts. Damon closes the door and Elena buffs in annoyance. "That was fast."

"Let's just go."

"Matt! Where in the hell is my crossbow!" I yelled out to my brother as I ransacked my closet. Throwing my clothes out to find it. I already checked under my bed. Not there. Not anywhere.

"I have it!"

I whipped my head up to the door with wide eyes. "What!"

I threw my quiver down on my bed and stormed through the house to the backyard of the house and found him shooting at a target that was stuck on a tree. "What are you doing?"

Matt grabbed an arrow and began loading it on the bow. "Practicing."

"For what?" I joined his side as he raised the crossbow and took aim. "The Vampire Hunter olympics?"

Matt turned his head at me with a glare. "We live in a town where Vampires run amok. Don't you think I need a weapon?" Well when he puts it like that. I mean, it would be less stress if he learns how to shoot. I sighed stubbornly, "Fine. You can keep the crossbow."

I prefer my compound bow anyhow.

"Come on now," I patted him on the shoulder. "Let's see your aim."

Matt raised the crossbow and closed an eye. I crouched down to get a better view then what I would get standing up.

He pulls the trigger and the arrow goes flying, it hits its target, the blue circle. A little more and it would have pierced the yellow. "That was good."

"So how long did it take you to become an expert in this?" Matt asked. He hands me the crossbow as he goes to get the arrow from the tree. "I don't know."

I looked down at the crossbow. I traced the flight groove, where the arrow goes. I picked it up quite quickly, I didn't even really know how to use it when we went to go rescue Elena from Rose. This life, as much trauma as it's brought me, it feels like I was made for it. Hunting, feels natural.

"It's felt like natural instinct." Matt chuckled, I hand back the crossbow. "Of course it did."

Matt loads the crossbow again and aims it. He seemed determined. I cross my arms and bit my bottom lip. "Matt...why are you so determined to learn?"

Matt lowered the bow. "Why are you asking?"

I shook my head. "No reason it's just, you've never seem so adamant about it before."

"You mean when I was avoiding you?"
"Yes."

Matt sighed. "That was before Klaus came to the school, killed Tyler and almost killed you."

I nod. I see his point, we have gotten in many of life and death situations. Some where we don't even come out. Where we've lost people. "You're my sister." Matt grabbed my hand. "You're the only family I have left and I need to learn how to protect us, I can't lose you."

Matt, your going to make me cry. I smiled lightly. "You're right. You do need to learn, but I am doing the protecting."

Matt chuckled and brought me into a hug. "I can't lose you either."
