Happy pride month y'all

"You'll never be whole until you meet your other half..." The words echoed in Dick's ears. He'd heard them said what felt like a million times. And every time he could feel the looks of pity he was getting. Why? His soulmate was already dead.

Everyone in their world was born with part of a disability, something that was healed when they met the one they were fated to be with. Their soulmate... their other half.

It was rare for someone's soulmate to already be dead when they were born, but it happened, leaving that person to live with both halves of their disability before they even got to experience life without it... Dick was just one of the lucky few who it happened to.

How did Dick know that his soulmate was already dead? Well, he was blind, not just in one eye as was fairly common. No, he was blind in both eyes, something that had made being a trapeze artist difficult, and a vigilante even more so...

Dick's parents had told him the story of how they'd met each other countless times. His father had been unable to use his left leg, and his mother hadn't had the use of her right. He'd always loved the part when his parents would describe the first time they met, and the first steps they took together.

When they'd met each other and been healed. Just like so many other people who'd found their soulmates.

As a child Dick had always held out hope that somehow he'd find the one for him and that the fates would rethink their decision of who his soulmate should've been... but his hope diminished as he grew older and less naive. After all, fate doesn't make mistakes.

Dick walked down the streets of Blüdhaven, using his white cane to feel out the sidewalk in front of him. He sighed and shifted the grocery bag on his arm, thinking about the kind worker at the local grocery store who'd been willing to help him gather the things he needed.

He always loved when people were willing to help him. He just wished he could pretend not to feel the looks of pity that he knew they were giving him. He'd never seen it, but he could imagine what it must look like.

Dick was completely absorbed in his own thoughts, so much so that he didn't hear the man coming before he slammed into him.

The grocery bags Dick had been holding scattered their contents across the sidewalk when he fell to the ground.

"I'm sorry didn't see you there..." Dick's voice faded as he looked up and saw enchanting green eyes looking back at him.

Dick's heart seemed to skip a beat as he took in everything around him. The colors, shapes... and the people...

Jason stood over Dick, mouth hanging open. He could hear... he'd heard that angelic voice... the voice of the man in front of him.

The two looked at each other and they simply knew. They knew they'd found their soulmate.

Jason froze as he walked down the street, Dick's hand lightly clasped in his own. He heard something...

Dick's melodic laughter drew Jason's attention. "That's an ambulance Jay," he said, going up on his tippy toes to give Jason a quick peck on the lips.

Jason smiled and pulled Dick into a deeper kiss. "I think I like the sound of your laugh better," he said, pulling Dick into a hug.

"Can you pass me the red marker?" Jason asked from his seat next to Dick at their table.

Dick's brow furrowed and he hesitantly handed Jason an orange marker.
