It was cold in Gotham. Icy wind blew off of the bay, and snow had coated the ground for the past month.
Dick hated the cold. It reminded him of the court. The tiny pod he'd be shoved in, the temperature dropping around him until his brain and his body shut down...
This cold felt so similar he had to consciously remind himself he was safe... he wasn't with them anymore.
Bruce had been the one to free Dick from the court of owls, but that had been so long ago that at times even he forgot about it.
Dick assumed the man knew about his weakness to the cold. How could he not? Had he not been the one to open his frozen pod?
He'd been there when Dick had shivered so violently during a patrol that he'd almost fallen off the edge of the building they were using as a post for their stakeout.
Bruce had been the one to wrap his cape around the trembling acrobat and pull him close to conserve heat.
So Dick just couldn't fathom why he'd been left alone to fight Dr. Freeze of all people.
His heart pounded with fear and the villain hadn't even done anything yet.
He didn't want his body to shut down. He didn't want to deal with the cold that would linger for days under his skin after he'd warm up enough for his heart to start beating again.
He just wanted to be warm... warm and safe.

"He escaped?" Dick mumbled from where he was leaning up against the alley wall, partially frozen to its surface.
"No..." Jason replied. "B's helping Gordon get him loaded up to ship off to Arkham... not that he'll stay there for long."
"Oh," Dick breathed, shivering violently.
Jason glanced around the ice and snow coated alley, whistling in slight awe. "Looks like you had quite the battle," he said.
"S-stuck," Dick mumbled.
"Right," Jason replied, using the butt of his gun to start smashing through the ice.
Dick stumbled as the rest of his limbs were freed.
Jason caught him before he fell, looping the acrobat's arm over his shoulder. "You're freezing," he noted.
Dick sucked in a shaky breath.
"Are your suit heaters on?" Jason asked, concern lacing his voice.
Dick shook his head.
"Let's get those turned on," Jason insisted.
"D-d-don't h-have th-them," Dick responded, leaning closer to Jason's warmth.
"Why not?" Jason demanded. "Bruce put them in everyone's suit."
Dick shook his head weakly. "N-not m-mine."
Jason clenched his hands into fists. "He should've put them in yours first. No offense... but you're a lot less bulky than me or B, and you don't have a cape like Robin or Red Robin," he fumed. "Not to mention how thin your suit is anyway," he mumbled under his breath.
He continued to mumble under his breath, removing his leather jacket and helping Dick into it.
The warmth the jacket provided didn't seem to matter however. Dick could feel his muscles beginning to stop responding, the cold spreading through them one by one.
"Let's get you to the Batmobile," Jason said, clapping Dick on the shoulder.
Dick stumbled, one knee buckling and sending him down into the snow.
