Bruh... this is sooooo freaking long!! Buuuut here's your Christmas special :)) Enjoy!

Barbara's nose wrinkled slightly as she walked down the streets of Gotham, the sights and sounds of the city just as chaotic as she'd remembered.

The chill of the air caused her to pull her coat tighter around herself, trying to preserve a bit of warmth. She breathed into her hands as she continued down the street to her temporary apartment. "They just had to send me off to Gotham," she mumbled under her breath as she walked.

Babs let out a surprised squeak when her shoe slid on a particularly slick patch of black ice, sending her falling into a nearby jogger.

"Woah," the man said, catching her arms and gently helping her right herself.

The half formed thanks froze on her lips when Babs recognized the man in front of her. "Charity case?" She asked, her mouth hanging open in awe.

Dick's stiffened, hurt flashing in his eyes.

Babs stumbled over her words, her cheeks flushing red with embarrassment. Insult the person who just stopped you from falling on your butt in the snow... nice move.

Dick let go of Barbara's arms, brushing past her and continuing on his jog.

Babs' gaze trailed after him. He'd changed a lot in the years she'd been gone, going from a scrawny kid to a handsome man. He didn't seem to recognize her, which objectively made her feel even worse about the encounter, but there wasn't much she could do now besides continue on her way.

Babs let out a sigh as she stepped into the apartment, a wave of nostalgia washing over her. This apartment was so similar to the one she'd stayed in with her Dad. It was going to be weird going in to work tomorrow at the precinct and having to check in with him.

She flipped down on the couch, pulling out her laptop and opening the files on her current case.

She'd been following a string of murders for a few weeks, ones that had led her here to Gotham.

A text popped up on her screen. "Got any plans for Christmas?" It read.

"Solving my case," Babs replied, rolling her eyes.

The text had been from her coworker Nate who'd been trying to get her to go out with him for weeks. Needless to say, she wasn't interested.

Besides. She had her case, and the longer she put it off the more corpses there'd be. Their charred skin and glassy eyes haunted her already, each with a bloody letter carved into their chests.

She had to keep that in mind, keep herself from being distracted by Gotham's Christmas. It was a rather overhyped season after all.

A quick shower helped clear her head, and she didn't waste any time settling down on the couch with her laptop, scanning files and security camera clips until her eyes hurt.

Babs startled awake. She'd fallen asleep, her computer still open in her lap.

She huffed and rubbed her eyes, checking the time.

It wasn't too late, at least not late enough for her to be considering turning in for the night, so she decided on a quick walk around the city. She'd been meaning to familiarize herself more with the area anyway.

Tucking her gun into its concealed holster, she grabbed her keys and headed out.

The streets of Gotham were oddly quiet, something Babs hadn't remembered to be wary of, a quiet night in any other city being a cop's dream.
