Hey. Me again casually taking extreme creative liberties with young justice canon :)
It was cold the night Dick decided he'd finally had enough. He packed a backpack with a few necessities and crept to the window. He wasn't quite sure where he was going to go, but he knew he had to get away from Wayne manor.
The walk was long, way longer than he'd expected...
Dick stopped by the side of the road, taking a sip from one of the two plastic water bottles he'd brought with him. His feet were already hurting more than he'd like, the realization that he had nowhere to go adding to the pain.
Barbara might hide him for a few days... but her Dad would ask questions eventually and he'd be forced to either go back or get Bruce in trouble for his lack of parenting skills... neither were things he wanted to do.
The flash of lights caught his attention, and for a moment he thought it was the Bat signal... but no... these were brightly colored pillars of light twirling through the sky... which meant... the circus was in town.
—
Dick's leg stung slightly from where he'd cut out his tracker, but his steps didn't waver as he walked up to the booth on the outskirts of the cluster of circus tents.
"Single ticket?" The woman inside asked without looking up.
"Uhh... I was hoping to audition for the show," Dick replied, trying to stand as tall as he could.
The woman looked up with a raised brow. "Where are your parents at kid?" She asked.
Dick looked away, brow furrowing slightly. "They're dead," he mumbled, voice slightly choked.
The woman's face softened. "So you're a runaway from a foster hoping to join the circus," she said.
Dick opened his mouth slightly, before closing it and simply nodding.
"Come on then," she said with a sigh. "Let's take you back and see what the ringmaster thinks."
—
A stocky man stood in front of Dick with his arms folded across his chest. His face was mockingly scolding, but his eyes held the same twinkle of kindness Dick had seen in Haly growing up. "Now, you ran away from home yes?" The man said, his voice thick with a heavy Russian accent.
Dick nodded.
The man's face broke out into a grin. "Ran away to join the circus, I like it. What's your act son?" He asked.
Dick bit his lip. He was itching to get onto the trapeze... but that would be too easy for Bruce to trace to him if he tried to find him.
The man's gaze softened. "Nothing huh... hmmm, you look like a smart lad, perhaps you'll take to training with the animals," he said, clapping Dick on the back. "The name's Alexei, welcome to the family."
Dick grinned. "My name's Dan... Dan Danger."
—
The circus left that night for Europe. Dick was finally free.
—
Everyone in the circus loved 'Dan Danger'. And as for Dick himself, he finally felt like he had a family again. Sure, he had Alfred who'd always been kind, and Bruce had his moments, but he had to admit he'd missed his circus family.
Dick didn't really have an act in the circus, in fact, he tried as much as he could to hide his talent, venturing out at night to swing on a makeshift trapeze. Other than that, he helped with clean up, and worked a bit with the animals.
