Dick selected a video on his phone, watching it as it played, remembering the day Jason had grabbed his phone and starting videoing himself purely out of boredom. They'd been having a conversation, though Dick's voice couldn't be heard in the video... Dick had watched it once before, finding it incredibly stupid, but he'd never been able to bring himself to delete the grainy video... especially not after Jason died.
The small screen showed Jason's smiling face, something Dick hadn't seen in so long...
"Hey dickie."
The sound of Jason's voice almost made Dick want to cry.
Dick had been surprised to hear Jason in the apartment that morning and had asked him when he'd came back.
"I'm still here Dick... I never left."
"You've been here forever," Dick had said.
"I know."
"Hey Jay, can I borrow your sweater? All mine are dirty," Dick remembered asking.
"Of course you can Dickie."
There was a slight pause in the audio, and Dick remembered how he'd accidentally torn a hole in Jason's sweatshirt. "Jason! I'm so sorry! I ripped your sweatshirt," he remembered calling.
Jason's laughter filled the recording.
"Dickie, it'll be ok."
There was a moment of silence on which Dick remembered apologizing profusely.
"That's just life Dickie."
"Ugh! I always ruin your stuff. Never let me borrow anything again!" Dick had ranted. "I don't even know why you let me borrow your sweatshirt this time after I ruined your last one."
"Don't say that bluebird, it was my choice. I did it because I love you."
"Ok," Dick had finally said, albeit slightly reluctantly.
"I love you Dickie."
"Love you too," Dick had replied.
The recording ended and Dick sniffled, pressing the play button once again...
"Hey dickie."
"Jay... y-you left m-me..." Dick sobbed quietly.
"I'm still here Dick... I never left."
Dick whimpered. "It hurts," he whispered, listening for the sound of Jason's voice from the recording.
"I know."
"I don't know if I can do this without you," he sobbed, clutching his phone.
"Of course you can Dickie."
"No Jay... I need you," Dick mumbled as if he was actually talking to Jason, begging him to come back...
Jason's recorded laughter echoed slightly in Dick's nearly empty bedroom.
"Dickie it'll be ok."
"Why'd you have to go?" Dick asked, voice filled with pain.
"That's just life Dickie."
"No... it was my fault, it should've been me..." Dick said, wiping at his eyes as he remembered how Jason had sacrificed himself... sacrificed himself to save him.
"Don't say that bluebird, it was my choice. I did it because I love you."
"Jay," Dick sobbed.
"I love you Dickie."
"I-I love you too Jay," Dick said, clutching his phone to his chest at the conclusion of the video and curling himself up in his bed. He felt as if his life was falling apart... because without Jason... he was nothing more than an empty shell...
