Chapter 47- Haru's Confession

Hiroki made an Oh! sound causing Itonome to look at him. He wispered," Because of you, Hikaru decided to become a cardiologist. Do you know about this?"

Hiroki stared at him dumbfounded. He didn't even know that Hikaru was aiming to be a doctor. He looked at Hikaru and couldn't help but smiling. 

Itonome looked at his smile and sighed. He thought,' I guess you didn't even have any idea that he was aiming to be a doctor.'

After lunch, Hiroki decided to talk with Haru. He stood in front of her door for long time before finally knocking. He heard a faint ' Come in ' and entered her room.

Haru looked at him strangely and asked," What are you doing here?"

"Are you free? I want to ask you some questions."

"Related to case?"

Hiroki nodded.

Haru sighed and indicated him to sit on sofa and she herself sat in front of him.

Haru," Shoot."

Hiroki looked at her for a while and said," Whatever question I am going to ask, answer it truthfully."

Haru nodded.

Hiroki," Did you kill Mami?"

Haru was startled by this question. She looked at him with wide eyes," No! Of course not!"

"Did you ever bullied her?"

She was silent for very long time before replying," Yes."

Hiroki stared at her blankly," Did you ever physically assaulted her?"

"No. Never. I assaulted her verbally."

"Why?"

"..."

"To fit in that friend circle?", he asked while highlighting words friend circle.

"Yeah."

"Was it worth it?"

Haru stared at him with red eyes," No. Not even for a moment."

Hiroki sighed and continued," Are Kisame, Nabuki and Ningning capable of raping and murdering Mami?"

"Yes they are."

"Why do you think so?"

Haru gave a dry chuckle," Those son of bi**hes assaulted her verbally, physically, mentally for two whole years and no one did anything. So why aren't they capable of taking their bullying to another level and actually raping and murdering her?"

Hiroki looked at Haru's trembling hands," Are you afraid of something?"

Haru looked at him with tears in her eyes and said," Yes I am. I am afraid that how am I gonna face Mami when I meet her in afterlife. I am afraid of how am I gonna face her mother and sister after all of this. I am afraid of mom and dad's disappointment. I am afraid of everyone hating me. If.....if I would have told them once just once to stop bullying her, this wouldn't have happened. But I was a f**king coward. I didn't want to lose my image as a cool kid and that's why-that's why I didn't stop her bullying for so long. I am a horrible person, brother."

Haru started crying. She was feeling so much guilt that she wanted to kill herself and meet Mami in afterlife to apologise.

Hiroki got up and said," I guess you realised your mistakes but remember this Haru" he walked close to her and made her to look at him in eyes," You aren't responsible for what happened to her. Don't carry the guilt of her death for rest of your life. Even if you would have tried to stop them from bullying her, it doesn't mean that they would have listened to you. Yeah, you should have at least tried but now you can't change the past. But learn to face the reality and move on with your life."

Haru sobbed and hugged Hiroki's waist tightly after hearing his words. She continuously said," I am sorry." And didn't stop crying for long time. All the emotions which were riled up in her finally got the chance to be released. The guilt, the hatred, the resentment, the sadness, everything. She felt a big weight had been lifted from her shoulder and she was finally able to breath freely.

She wiped her tears and asked Hiroki with hoarse voice," Are they really the one who did this to Mami?"

Hiroki rubbed her cheeks and gave a faint smile," You will see tommorow."

Haru also gave him a small smile and said," Mami deserves justice. She was a really nice girl. Don't let her death go in vain."

"I know."

Hiroki returned back in his room and sat on his bed thinking about something. He looked outside the window towards the huge Kamazura estate. He thought,' How would I be today if mom and dad would not have disowned me? Would I be happy or would I want to run away?" He laughed at his own thoughts and fell asleep.

The next day, Hiroki was packing everything he needed for the case when someone knocked on his door.

Mirai came in and looked at him strangely.

Hiroki asked," What's wrong?"

Mirai said coldly," How can you ask me what's wrong? Why are you doing this, huh? Do you want your sister to suffer? Let go of this case, Hiroki."

Hiroki put down the things in his hands and looked at Mirai," No. I don't want anyone to suffer from any sort of injustice."

Mirai clicked her tongue," Why are you trying to attain that justice then? Someone else can do it!"

"If I won't then no one will either. You know this very well."

Mirai walked near him and held his hands," Hiroki think about it. Our relationship with Shirahane and Akio will be spoiled. The big deals which we have made with them would be completely destroyed. Think about your dad's loss."

Hiroki stared at her in disbelief," How can you say such things? What if in place of Mami it would have been one your daughters? Would you let it go for your profit or loss?"

"..."

"Don't try to tell me to back off from this case because it will never happen."

He left after saying this.
