Summary: You make it a mission to figure out what Taylor has in store for your birthday and almost walk into it

Taylor had something huge planned in honor of your birthday and she had plans on keeping it that a secret.
What did she have planned for you? Well now, if we knew than it would no longer be a surprise, would it? We will say that she had been planning a party to have with your family and friends; and getting the house ready for the party would take up most of the day. So she made the arrangements while you've been at work for to have your mother and Selena take you out shopping that day until she was ready for you to come home.
However, Selena is one to make a few slips and even though Taylor was nervous to have let her in on what the surprise was, she allowed her in on it because she needed her help. It just so happened that you had walked in right as they've finished making the plans and as always, you grew suspicious and started asking questions.
"What's going on?"
"We just stopped by when-" Selena started nervously, but gets interrupted by Taylor.
"When I invited them in for dinner."
"Uh-huh."
You remained suspicious and looked at Taylor suspiciously before she spoke up.
"Come on, Y/n. Why can't you just relax and enjoy the surprise?"
Before you answered, you looked towards Selena who immediately looked away, causing you to crack a grin and a question.
"What about the blabber mouth? Does she know?"
"Maybe.." Selena says, teasingly.
"She knows. Hey Selena, what do you say we take a drive and get some ice cream after dinner? My treat."
"Y/n, you stop trying to make me tell you what your gift is. Nothing you say or do will work."
"We'll see about that..." You mutter under your breath.

The morning of your birthday had come and you were more than ready to continue your hunt on finding out Taylor's surprise for you.
As planned, your mother and Selena had took you shopping, although you kept on making excuses not to go , making them late in taking you. Taylor walks in just in time to see Selena and your mother standing just outside the kitchen and starts rambling on with question why you aren't out yet.
"What are you doing here? You're supposed to be out shopping!"
"Y/n keeps making up excuses to make us run a little behind." Selena answers.
"Y/n!"
You walk into see Taylor being the one who called out for you. When she saw you, she knew you were more than ready to go.
"What? I'm trying to get ready, I still need a few minutes-"
"You're more than ready to go, Y/n."
Taylor pushes you all out the door and finally has you on your way.
"Remember, don't come back until I call you!"

It's been a few hours since you left the house to go shopping.
Because of the stubborn person you were, you didn't want to admit that you were having a fun time and almost forgot about Taylor's command about waiting for her call until she actually had called for them to bring you home. For your shopping trip, you had gone to the mall and visited your favorite store as your mother and Selena had spoiled you while treating you out to lunch.
"Taylor called, she's ready for us to bring Y/n back." Selena announces as your eyebrows raises.
"Really? That was fast."
"Do you not want to go back? We can call her and change plans-"
"No! Let's go!"
"Okay.. I was only teasing, Y/n!" Your mother playfully swats your arm as you make your way back home.

Just as you took the first step inside, you were greeted with a startling but welcome surprise from friends and family waiting for your arrival.
Taylor walks over to you and engulfs you in a warm embrace, planting a soft kiss on your head.
"Happy birthday, Y/n. Are you ready for your gift?"
"Yeah!" You say excitedly.
Taylor hands you over a small black box that looked as though it carried a ring. When you opened it, there was a ring inside, but not an engagement ring, it was a promise ring with your birth stone on it with the letters of your first name with the first letter of Taylor's name next to it. Taylor slips it on as you were too speechless to say anything.
"Oh Taylor... it's beautiful."
"I know we still have a long way to go before we make any big commitments, but I thought this would do for now until we're both ready. I bought this a couple of weeks after we started dating and I wanted to wait until the timing felt right to give it to you."
"Oh, definitely. Thank you so much, Taylor! I love you!"
"I love you too, Y/n."
The both of you engulfed each other as you enjoyed the rest of your party with your friends and family.
